Quiet, but not Idle. A couple small ships...

Wow Ski. Excellent work. Despite the lack of directors, this looks like a nice kit. You've done it well. The torpedo mounts look incredibly good. Nice effort!

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Boats finally finished! I've completed and mounted the last of the ship's boats. I feel like I just won the lottery! Now I can get onto the business of wrapping up some small details, ladders and rigging, etc. I'm in the home stretch now! I've touched up the seams on the small boats with...

Thanks Hermit. You need to fire your Arizona build back up again!

    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

Nice closing shots of Rodney. That's a nice model and I hope to build it as well as you have some day down the road. It's cool to see Titanic side-by-side with Rodney. Quite a comparison between the vessels. Nice work on the Titanic by the way.

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

I'm not sure that I'm up to painting the entire hull, but I think painting the seams to make them disappear could be a good fix. I'm afraid if I paint the whole hull that the tint might be off and it could make the boats not blend with the ship's color. I might be able to play with some...

    Bredford Dolphin, JSC, 1:400

Very nice Flu... I didn't realize how detailed this model was.

Two Medium-size boats Thanks guys! I've completed the two medium-size boats that are on the mid-level of the shelter deck racks. These will be on top of the boats (the largest) that I'm currently building. These two were pretty easy to build and the results are adequate. I still hate...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks my many friends. I've finished the two medium-sized boats as of today. I should get some photos up soon.

Motor Boats on Racks Thanks Rick! I've completed the two racks for mounting the motor boats on the quarterdeck. For some reason, I love building the racks. Maybe its all the cut outs. Any way, I've mounted them to the deck and placed the boats within. There, now that may...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks Bill. Yes, those resin boats at Loyalhanna Dock Yard were expensive. About $20 - $30 each depending on the size. Way too much for my already thin wallet. I'll bet the detail on them was great though. At this point, I'm satisified with what I have. I've placed these boats in the...

Back to boats Thanks Smyfe... Yes, I'm planning on having a furniture maker build a custom cabinet for it with a clear plexi-glass front and lighting within. I know that's going to set me back a bit, but I think it will be well worth it for display and preservation... After much torment on...

    H.G. Watkins USS Houston question

WOW! That looks really good Vernon. You've dressed this old gal up quite a bit. I feel like I'm off the coast of Java right now! I can't recall seeing a Watkins model look this good after this much assembly. Keep up the great work Vernon!

    Digital Navy's HMS Dreadnought

Nice progress shots. Yes, as I recall, the bow of this model is a bear. I had to do some touch-up painting on the seams despite my best efforts. Other than that, this model goes together pretty well...

    HG Watkins USS Tennessee

Glad I could help you out Papastumpy... Yeah, you'll have to add more formers to the basic Watkins design for this model. I used balsa wood struts cut to suit during the hull construction were most helpful. Again, I can't stress enough, measure twice and cut once when it comes to putting...

    Digital Navy's HMS Dreadnought

No problem papastumpy. I'll take it to the office with me on Friday and scan/email the diagram to you. I think you would find it very helpful. I see some scratch building in your near future. :-)

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Back to Work I've used my thinking time to build some additional details that I skipped over earlier in the build. The first shots are of six 30 cal. machine guns that needed to be placed in the funnel platforms and the upper nest on the aft mast. These are fun little guns to build. They...

    Digital Navy's HMS Dreadnought

For such a revolutionary ship, she didn't see a lot of actual combat. Timing was just not on Dreadnought's side to make naval combat history. At least she made design history. To help your detailing process papastumpy, I could scan my Dreadnought diagram from the JSC 1/250 version and email...

    Digital Navy's HMS Dreadnought

I think you'll eventually see either Model Card or GPM or one of the other major designers do a 1/200 Dreadnought, full hull. It's day is coming. I'd say that Dreadnought has been built by so many modelers to this point, that the subject (dare I say it) may be a little fatigued. Not that...

Quiet, but not Idle. A couple small ships...

It's hard to tell from these shots Ski. Doesn't look that bad to me. But I know what you're going through. Do you have scans of the parts? You might try to remove, re-print and laminate to thicker stock???

    Digital Navy's HMS Dreadnought

Lookin' good. You've got a nice clean hull and deck to work with. That's important. Keep up the good work!
