    Heisler on route

I would agree. Nice use of lighting. Out of curiosity, what equipment are you using and at what settings? I know you've brought it up before but could you refresh my memory. Use this picture as an example of your settings, if you could.:) Thanks in advance.

    Progress on the Highline trestle

Not a problem. I do the same type of modeling. I call it "simulated narrow gauge". See my photos below for a look. I've taken a stance that with a lack of RTR equipment in HOn3, I'd opt for an authentic look using small engines (shays, 2-6-0, 2-8-O, Heislers, etc) and keep rolling stock to a...

Wow! Beautiful stuff. Is this based on the RGS? .

Mammoth and Eureka Ry update photos

Thanks all. Spitfire, the layout is approx 55 inches off the ground. I built it as such so little hands couldn't get to it or rest things on top. It's cantelevered off the wall so there's no posts or benchwork to get in the way or bump. It's funny. I got my first HO train for Christmas...

    Bridge crossing...

thanks all. Freddo, for this shot, I used a Nikon 775 set at low brightness and -1.0 exposuure. For lighting (don't laugh), I simply use 120 watt incandescent indoor floods from a celing fan. I use a 4O watt light for fill-in.

    Bridge crossing...

Not at all Jon. In fact, thanks for adding the smoke on the other image. That's one thing I always somehow leave out when sharpening up my photos.

    Bridge crossing...

Caught this shot while photographing the layout below. I think it's one of my better shots out about a million I've taken so far. Modeling is a piece of cake compared to photography.

Mammoth and Eureka Ry update photos

I've provided a sort of panorama of my shelf layout below starting from left to right. The layout measures 12 feet (actually, there is an additional 4 foot hidden reverse track) by 4 feet down to one feet. The epitome of a shelf layout, it covers the entire back wall of my son's bedroom. He's...

I need to learn to read better. It states clearly "Ozarks" above. :)

Casey, I saw that Furlow article in the Gazette. The way they set it up, however, it made it sound like he would be contributing some aritcles down the road. That hasn't materialized. Glad to see he has gotten back into modeling after all these years. Sounds like he's been quite busy with his...

    Progress on layout...

Thanks all for your compliments. It's interesting. I started out in the hobby when I was in my pre -teens (I'm in my 30's now) and Furlow and Olson were the big name modelers at that time. They were almost like celebrities in the model railroading world. You don't see that much anymore...

    Progress on layout...

Thanks for the info. What's strange about the camera is that it only appears to do this when taking model photographs. If I'm taking pictures of the kids, etc, it doesn't have this effect. Kettlestack, I think I'll take your advice and try it.

    Progress on layout...

Question for photo experts out there... Notice in my photos above, the right side of the picture is fuzzy. This always happens when I set up shots. I use a Nikon Coolpix 775. Nice camera, but this always seems to happen. User error or faulty lens?

The styrofoam is only for set up purposes for now. When the scene is complete, there will be a dirt road that meanders up the side of a retaining wall separating the tracks below.

    Progress on layout...

Haven't posted in awhile and wanted to give you all an update of what's happening. I've started work on the other end of my shelf layout. As you can see from the pictures, it's a very narrow shelf (only about 1 and a half feet right here). As I've probably mentioned, I idolized Furlow and...
