    Do you remember when...?

Yeah, u r right. I mis-typed. Now I learned that I may need to buy wider radius curves. I got some lo-o-ong rolling stock and locos.

Want power? By yingle I'll give yeah power!

Golly gee! Has anyone ever thought of just using plain ol' washers?? My wife bought some "vintage" passenger cars. The roofs were loose on all of them, so I set about to re-glue them. I was surprised to find rather large flat washers had been glued in to add weight.

    whats in that box?

Man! What a nice 25lb box to get! And I thought I had a lot of railroad stuff! Of course, I got almost all of stuff on e-bay. My wife and I went to Hobby Lobby last Friday, and I wasn't too impressed. Later, we went to a hobby shop that was going to quit selling trains. We spent over $200.00 and...

    Do you remember when...?

to"hmas" and everyone else. Thanks for the support, re: brass rails. When I actually get to laying track, I will use all new brass track joiners. I bought 600 of them on e-bay. I would not have thought about the graphite grease, but I can see that it might be something to consider. I wonder if...

    Do you remember when...?

Thanks, guys! I really do appreciate all your info regarding brass tracks. Yes, I read many threads on the pros and cons of brass tracks, right here on this forum. However, as I said, brass track is way cheaper than nickle silver or steel. The steel tracks would acquire some rust quite rapidly...

    Do you remember when...?

Jim, Most of my straight track is 9". I also have some shorter sections, some factory made, some handmade. I also bought some flex track, used, but I am not overly impressed with it. For some "strange" reason, most of the track I own is the standard 13" curved. I am not into any particular...

    Do you remember when...?

Just in case anyone is interested, my wife has been getting on e-bay and bidding like crazy for stuff for our railroad. I don't know, off hand, how much rolling stock we have. I think we have enough track to go around our house, at least once! We have bought mostly used brass track, because it...

    My first built up!

Excellent job! It almost made me "homesick" for the days when I would work around equipment, similar to what you have.(USACE.) I said "almost!":thumb:

    Darwinism

Yeah, that was real stupid, wasn't it?? I grew up almost on the tracks, and the most stupid thing I everr did was to jump off a moving train, facing the wrong way!

    Lighting Buildings

Love the idea of using Christmas tree lights. If you buy them at the end of the season, you can get for practically nothing. Or just go to a Goodwill or some other thrift store.

    Rolling stock kits.

I use nothing but rtr stuff. I would rather kit build, but when one suffers from uncontrollable muscle spasms, it kinda retricts what you can do.

    Walthers 2-stall engine house

Great job!! VERY nice!! I think the rails were usually laid in concrete, at least they were, inside of the facories that had railroad tracks running in to them.

    Bracket mounting ideas?

I have tried several methods mention aforhand. I prefer using a concrete bit, in a 3/8 drill, and then screwing lag bolts into the wall. You will need a good 3/8 sqaure drive ratchet, for best results. And, by the way, use a flat washer under the head of the lag bolts. Just my opnion, though.

    how high?

I have seen many comments on the size of layouts. I have been reading a book my wife picked up at the library, and while it is devoted to N scale, (I run HO,) they seem to almost insist a layout should be at least shoulder high, if not eyelevel. I have considered 30", but that may not be high...
