    Kansas City Southern Grain Hoppers

Yeah, it seems like the big suppliers only want to do business with their biggest retailers. I had a similar run-in with Kodak, quite a few years back. I won the battle, but ultimately lost the war. So it goes...

    Engine Terminal build

Lookin' good! Uh, do you by any chance have access to a jig-saw? I'm willing to bet cuttin' that hole with a key-saw was a real pain in the drain! But looks like you did a really good job, anyway!:thumb:!

    Kansas City Southern Grain Hoppers

All I'll say on this matter is, Athearn must be doggone proud of them! For $28.95 a pop, they are way out of my league. And for that much money, I'd expect them to be 100% accurate! Caveats are just attorneys wanting to cover the corporate's backsides.

    American Made ?????

Speaking of the "wild west," when my family moved from Iowa to Arizona, it was not uncommon to see "indians" dressed in their tribal clothes for special occasions. The first palce we lived was very close to a family of Yavapai Apaches. I became friends with the oldest son, named Eddie. For many...

North American RR's coming back big time

If anyone really is interested in rail facts and figures, visit the R/R's websites. As an example, nscorp, csx, and bnsf. You will get the "straight skinny" from the railroads, themselves. I think you might also enjoy some of the photos on nscorps' website.

N&W CF Caboose - AMB (IMAGE HEAVY!)

Matt, Fantastic job, all the way around, and underneath and inside, and... I apologize to you for not taking the photos you asked for, earlier on. The doctors keep changing my meds, and since more than one Dr. is involved, they sometimes get me pretty drugged up. I also take Ambien CR which...

North American RR's coming back big time

It is not surprising that you see so many longer trains. I don't often see them, but I live close enough to hear them, almost 24/7. I have noticed a definite increase in rail traffic. I can tell, because I can hear the whistle, every time it crosses the almost defunct railroad crsossing just...

    Introducing me

Welcome, Bob! I'm sure you will enjoy the company! I too, live in NS country. In fact I was just doing a photoshoot for myself in Roanoke, VA last Wednesday. Roanoke is where they have a railyard, and their "old" engine shop. They still repair locos there, but they don't build 'em anymore.

    Old-Timer Needs an Opinion...

If I may, a reminder that if you saw Homasote, it creates a very fine dust. So if you use it, be sure to wear one of the blue particle masks. They cost more, but they keep out the finest particles. This info from the company that invented the stuff.:thumb:

    what turn radius

May I make a suggestion? If you have a flat, narrow edge on your layout, try using some foam pipe insulation to keep equipment from going over the edge. (plus, it's softer to lean on, if you need to make a long reachsign1.)

North American RR's coming back big time

Ah, yes! The RR is making a comeback. I know that NS has invested tons of money, (over 1.2 Bilion dollars,) for upgrades of their infrastructures. They are widening their tunnels, and increasing the height of them, so that another track can be laid, and they can haul double decker modals through...

The original Springfield Southern is no more

Much to my amazement, and delight, I have discovered my wife is very into this model railroading. She has bought more stuff than I would have! She has plans to build a large layout, complete with a Swiss Chalet village somewhere on the mtn. I was going for mainly a freight operation. I now will...

Santa Fe, What type of foam and where do you buy it? I am going to start my layout soon, I hope. I had planned on using MDF.
