Congratulations on your "new" U33B, Mike! (Already congratulated yoo on the Geep on the other thread!) I think the conversion was a great idea! Foster's book describes the U36B as "virtually indistinguishable from the U33B." The main difference was of course the HP as you said (3300 vs...

    It's Here!!

Those wanting a Zephyr please note this was a very limited first run! Tony's Train Exchange only got FIVE units (and I bet they had 10X that number of orders). I ordered the first of last JUNE and didn't get one! The next wave of Zephyrs are not due out until mid-OCTOBER - just remember, I'm...

Wolv - To be clearer, I can run cars shorter than 89' IF they were still in use in the year 1980 (Mike's era). If discontinued by 1980, I don't want them on the layout, as by 1996 they would really be out of place! Is that better ??? - George

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Wolv - Yes, that sounds better! Now, me, I would draw in the fictional towns on a map to know where they were, if / when you have them! In answer to your question: YES (YES I'm in favor of having some of the other's rolling stock, and YES I can run the 89', but I can also run the...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Wolv - I can run any rolling stock Mike can run in 1980. There ... isn't that simple ??!! :) *********************************** Mike - Thanks for the SD40-2 report! Hopefully the noise will die down once you break it in. ************************************* Andy -...

Ok wolv ! I THINK I know what you are doing now..... But I guess I don't understand how that translates into a layout. Guess I will see once you have it done! I'm too location / map dependent, I suppose. When I read a novel that involves travel (LOTR, etc.), I follow every step on...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Wolv - I do what you do also, but on a smaller scale for my regional RIL. My map (see above) shows that my RIL is mostly throughout Iowa, with track from the QCA into Illinois to Chicago, track west of Des Moines to Lincoln, NE, track past Fairfield thru Missouri to KC and into Kansas to...

    The Zephyr Ships!!

Zephyr delayed Just got word from Tony's Train Exchange (TTX) that my Zephyr is NOT in the mail - they only got 5, and I was #6 (or more). :( I ordered this months ago, so I thought I could get in on the first wave, but .............. Wonder if other dealers (Loy's) got more than 5...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Wolv - How much of your RR will you actually have on the layout? As I said, in my case, I will have the track along the Mississippi (West side) from Clinton, IA to the QCA to Muscatine to Fairfield as a start (Fairfield being built now!). AMTRAK and BN/SF will meet the ROCK at Fairfield...

Wolv et al - Here is my revised RIL 1996 map: BTW - Fairfield is the dot between Eldon and Washington (the Hastings map shows it better). - George

OK - I'll tell (if anyone wants to know!) It is where the old RI line (N-S) crosses the BNSF/AMTRAK line (E-W). Maps of the city still show a section of the old RI track! So that "Fair" city is on my layout with an AMTRAK station to meet up with passengers from the RI "Cornbelt" rocket...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Neat church, Andy. Sometime I must go over and see what it looks like today. I agree with Mike - looks like a scratch-build project, but would look great on a layout once finished! **************** No takers on the Fairfield question ??? ***************** Wolv - you are going...

Why Fairfield ??? Can you guess why my RIL goes to Fairfield, IA ???? Hint - look at the OTHER trains I run ! - George

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Shane - it doesn't have to be a or prototypical area or even where the RI really was - just a geographical location you want to "merge" with the other routes! - George

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Sounds like fun to me, Andy - our tracks will meet in Moline/Rock Island ! I assume your track will go along the South side of the river, and mine along the North ... OK, OK - downstream from the QCA that's East (Andy, toward Memphis) and West (George, toward Muscatine) sides...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Wolv - Yes, weathering of the trucks and tank is called for! But why P2K couldn't have the same ones as on the GP9 is beyond me! I look forward to seeing your map! ************************ Andy & Shane - You guys need to claim a RI area - see the thread above for what we are...

Not the best photo, but I hope you can see some of my remarks about the GP18 (and compare with the GP9). Notice teh fans, and the gray trucks and fuel tank (compare with the silver-gray GP9). The colors a bit off, but with flash it is a brighter red than "real". - George
