Its Monday 4-25-05, Weekend modeling accomplishments

I've got benchwork and subroadbed! Woohoo! I've even got some roadbed glued down. The completed section with turntable is from years ago and unfortunately some of it has to be torn up before I'm finished with it. But still, I'm a lot further than a few days ago... when I just had an empty corner...

    Bye Bye F7!!

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't do it so carefully. If you look at the picture you can see that I had to cut an additional thin section of the BN F7 to fit in between the cab of the BN and the body of the Amtrak. I cut the hood of the BN off too short... mismeasured. I didn't use my dremel tool...

    Bye Bye F7!!

Actually, that project is over 7 years old! You see, back in high school I cut out about 20 scale feet of length from a Bachman U33B and made a short switcher locomotive out of it... so I got needed to vent more creativity. I had an Athearn Amtrak F7 shell and frame (no motor, trucks...

    Bye Bye F7!!

I'll give it a try... lets see if I can figure it out. And one more showing a close up of what I did to the frame. Basically I grinded the sides of the frame down until the shell would fit over it. The length I spliced the shells to made it so the existing coupler pads would be useable through...

    Bye Bye F7!!

Bench Grinder time? Having spliced two F7A cabs together for a similar project, I also ran into the same problem with the frame. I removed all the parts and just used a bench grinder to make the square end of the frame allow the bulldog nose of the shell to fit... worked like a champ. Need a...

    Atlas RS-3 vs. Kato RS-2

I'm pretty set on using a few RS3's as locomotives for my freelanced road. However, I'm very partial to Kato locomotives (in spite of the fact that I won't be able to afford many of them). I've heard the Atlas RS-3 is a Kato locomotive sold under Atlas' name. Is that true? I've no objections...

    Alco RS Identification...

So, a question for you Alco-hounds out there. I'm looking at using some RS-3's for my freelance railroad and Kato RS-2's miss the mark just barely. How hard would it be to update an RS-2 to look like an RS-3? That is, what are the visual distinctions that seperate an RS-2 from an RS-3. I...

    Howdy!

Well, NAFTA didn't affect operations on the SJM&E much because the namesake is actually a city in Missouri called Mexico. =) Kind of deceiving and I picked it intentionally. It gives the railroad name a sort of exotic and ambitious flavor. Seems like many railroads of earlier years named...

Its Monday 4-11-05, Weekend modeling accomplishments

I spent the weekend productive on non-hobby stuff, but finished with some small progress on the layout. I'm using pink, extruded foam as my base for the layout and I slapped on some brown latex paint to hide the pink... will make scenickin' easier down the road as I won't have to worry about...

    Howdy!

 Hello all, my name is Joel (Honger is the username) and I’m new to the forum. I’m reintroducing myself to the hobby after a horrible 7 year hiatus! That hiatus was due to college, subsequent new job, marriage, etc. Through all that time I’ve followed the hobby on and off as I could… even...
