    Chapel car...

Hey, SG! What a great idea! Various denominational organizations operated 'chapel cars', as mentioned, that were instrumental in bringing the Gospel to many out of the way areas accessable only by rail or without houses of worship such as small farming communities. This is a postcard view of...

Hey, Ed.... I tried checking it out, but I received a message notifying me that the site was temporarily unavailable. Maybe soon? BTW, what kind of contributions are you looking for? Russ :)

    E-L Mainline Action

I stumbled across this photo on eBay. This is a shot of my hometown station in Hawthorne, NJ in the early '60s, just after the Erie & DL&W merged to form the Erie-Lackawanna. That Alco RS is still pretty clean and is pulling the usual string of Stillwell coaches.

    Your Favorite HO Scale Manufacturer?

I put in a conditional vote for Atlas on the basis of my new DL&W H-24-66 Trainmasters with sound and decoders. They are truely awesome in every detail. I have other manufacturer's diesels....P2K, P1K, Stewart, Kato, Alco Models (brass) and another Atlas job, an S1. So far, I really like them...

    HOn3 2-8-2 EBT loco

I think that BTS made them in HOn3 at one time and has O/Sn3 kits in this loco. BTS also carries EBT structure models, too. Check out the web site at: http://www.btsrr.com/

    Interchange

Hey, Robin... Freight transfers between narrow and standard gauges were done by hand at transfer docks. I believe the term used for this was 'breaking gauge'. The East Broad Top narrow gauge in Pennsylvania came up with a great idea. They connected with the PRR where the EBT had an overhead...

    The Start

This is a photo that my father took of me in the mid-'50s at the small Erie RR freight yard in my hometown of Hawthorne, NJ. I literally grew up next to the Erie main line. The rest is, well, history. ;) Russ

    Question about Airbrushing

As a sidenote, I use a spraybooth when painting and cleaning out my airbrushes, so I'm not inhaling the acetone vapor. I really urge people who are going to paint a lot to build a good sized table top spraybooth. Mine has a vent hose that goes right outside with a good pulling fan. Does it work...

    Question about Airbrushing

It depends on the paint. I shoot Floquil with acetone without any problems. I also have sprayed Scalecoat this way, too. Acetone flashes off fast and allows the paint to dry faster, but this isn't always the way to go. Slower drying time gives the paint the opportunity to 'lay out' 'or 'flow...

    Question about Airbrushing

Good Morning, Ray... Using an airbrush has its own list of variables. I find myself spraying in a minature technique of the way that I use a quart cup spray gun in my line of work. First, you really do need to have a good air supply...it makes all of the difference. If your air pressure is...

It's MONDAY 10-25-04, weekend modeling accomplishments!

YES!! :thumb: :thumb: Now THAT'S a man after my own style. I pride myself on my ability to goof off, sneak in naps, etc. taking advantage of my wife's ignorance of how long certain jobs around the house take. When she comes home from work on Saturdays, I always make sure I come out of the...

    Fill in this space:

Industrial areas aren't always packed with buildings. You could pave the area and have the track alongside of the paved area. Park a boxcar with an open door on the siding with a truck backed up against it getting loaded/unloaded. Throw in a loose stack of pallets, a 55 gallon drum fire to warm...

    Eleven years in the making...

Absolutely gorgeous! For any doubters or nay-sayers, let this loco be our herald...TRACTION ACTION SATISFACTION IS BACK!!! BTW, what trucks are those? I'm looking for heavy traction trucks for an MU pair that I want to build. Russ  :thumb:

    I spent my whole paycheck!

Absolutely gorgeous! I have one of their models, but a 'lower end' one that only cost me part of my paycheck! :p How does it run & sound? Great, I bet!

    Heavyweight Diaphragms...

Hey, Whiz... A google search came up with a couple of places on-line where you can get these. I have them for models that I'm going to build and put them on a Bethlehem Car Works DL&W RPO/Baggage heavyweight car. The profile of the top of the car end has a curved area that protrudes out a bit...

    Anyone into the oldies

Hello, Ray... WOW! What a walk down Memory Lane, eh? I had a Tyco 0-4-0 and the 4-4-0 Mantua (?) 'General' when I was a kid. Varney, Ulrich, Tyco, Mantua...yep, remember 'em! I have a couple of that same Ambroid kit that I picked up on eBay. Looks like you have a modified version of the...
