    Hoping for more ...

Here is the photo Jim Six (of MR fame) made of a production model of Life Like's new P2K GP38-2. The model was sent to a LL contributor in advance of the bulk shipment (which is now due in November). Jim says that the scale shows that the 48" fan measures 42", or 17% too small. You can see...

    Hoping for more ...

    1. I'm not a member of a club - and this doesn't happen in MY train room! I DO have a ROCK ISLAND pin and mug ..... 2. EVERYTHING except KADEE and KATO is made in CHINA! I don't mind a $25 rolling stock if it has KADEE, ATLAS, KATO or WALTHERS (for passenger cars) on the box! Then I know...

    mad at ebay!!!

But as I said, Jim, no one has proven that the so called "sniper" programs are any more effective than e-Bays own proxy bid system! And THAT is free! In the end, the highest bid wins - if you really want it, put in a good e-Bay proxy bid. If it goes over your proxy bid limit, it is too...

    mad at ebay!!!

However, e-Bay's proxy (automatic) bidding really does the same thing as any "sniper" program (and is free!): It will automatically increase your bid until your maximum is reached. Use it or lose it!

    mad at ebay!!!

Are you sayng that you had keyed in a higher auto bid that didn't take effect ? Or did the bid just exceed your maximum bid ? If the latter, what's to complain about? Someone just wanted it more than you! How is that e-Bay's fault ??? This is an auction, not a purchase! And "it isn't...

Buy trains from Ebay? What are you looking for?

I've bought about a third of my locos off e-Bay. But now that I have all the in-production/post-production locos I want*, I concentrate on unique, usually custom, items. For example, I recently bought a custom Rock Island GP40-2 shell in blue for an Athearn drive, and then a custom painted...

    Track cleaning

I still think the best liquid cleaning chemical is isopropanol (rubbing alcohol). That and a Bright Boy from time-to-time is all I have needed. Whatever you use, youi need some way to remove the residue once the cleaner dissolves it, or once the cleaner evaporates you are back where you...

    Blocked

I was having simular problems with a couple of other web sites - I cleared out history and cache several times, and tried all sorts of internet options with no luck. It turned out that there was a VIRUS - on the University SERVER - NOT my computer - that was blocking certain web sites to all...

    What's on order ?

Hi Mike - I'm putting a Details West snowplow (PL155) on my Atlas RI GP40 and on my Athearn RI GP38-2 (thought I would get one of the P2Ks and superdetail the Athearn, as it is the same name/road number as the second P2K model). Is that the snowplow you are using ???? The GP40 is also...

    Whats Happening ---??????

True - the picture WAS worth a thousand words ! And several hundred posts !! Jim's work and photo's have given me something to strive for, both in my modeling AND my photography !!! Glad things are back to "normal" over there! See 6 scale inches? I do good sometimes to see 6 REAL...

    What's on order ?

OK all you HOers - what do you have on order ??? My big orders right now are for a couple of locomotives. I've got the P2K GP38-2 (17% too small fan and all) in, of course Rock Island blue (I HOPE that is a trend by P2K! Maybe a RI blue GP7 or 9 next ??!?) and an Atlas Master U30C in...

    Whats Happening ---??????

Well, I've been involved in the "Great Atlas HO Forum GP38-2 Fan War of 2003." I would describe it, but you probably wouldn't believe me! I'll try on this forum: The new P2K GP38-2 fans have been measured on a production model (LL sends some models early to selected dealers and...

    Do you run "local" railroads?

I model a Rock Island regional road in 1996, but my fictional RI has the same "business" as the real IMRL and Iowa Interstate roads had in that year.

    The Rock in Weatherford

Very nice work, Mike! Gotta love those GP38-2s! Do you have any of the new P2Ks on order ??? I have heard that the fans are a bit too small, but that the drive has been improved. Will see when mine gets here. I am also superdetailing my Athearn model (instead of getting the second P2K...

    railroad memorabilia

Stock certificates - I "own" shares in my CHICAGO, ROCK ISLAND and PACIFIC railroad ... well, it is as valuable as most stocks today! ;) I COULD dig up some RI track or get some items along the right of way near my house, but the Iowa Interstate RR that uses that track today might have...

Getting back into the hobby a bit

The top HO loco models are made by (IMHO!): #1 Atlas Master - the very best in plastic - or maybe brass, too! Superb detail, paint and drive (Atlas drive, not Kato except on older models) - usually complete with DCC decoder (some of the newer ones you have a choice of with or without...

I can use ONE of them !!! Any guesses as to which ONE ???? You get three, and the first two don't count !!! ;) :D

    Potash Mine Revisited

Ron - Thanks for the links! Very interesting! And I see what you mean - it seems that potassium chloride is now also called "potash" - shows how confusing things were (are?) when Lavoisier's nomenclature is not used! A chemist would never mistake potassium chloride for the carbonate, but...
