I wish - I got to the Quad Cities eleven years after the ROCK folded.
ATLANTA was at the end of my world - by rights, I should model the Gainesville-Midland RR (and have a LOT less locos!).
Would have been nice to see those E's come in with the QC Rocket !!!
AMTRAK is thinking again...
Sorry Gil - may God grant you His peace and love.
I remember this great song from Chariots of Fire.
My tastes run more to Vangelis than ELP these days !!!
(They gave a great concert at the U of Ga once upon a time, however!)
You might look at the conversion list at the Kadee website for info:
Kadee® Quality Products Co. - HO Coupler Conversions
Looking around the site might help with other questions, also.
Mixing locos was the norm with the Rock Island - so much so that a photo of three MUed GP38-2s was labeled as "unusual" !
Examples:
GP38-2 MUed with either a GP7, SD40-2, GP40, or a U25B !!!
Speaking of Phoenix and Area ...
I will be in the area in a few weeks - what are the local opinions of the best hobby shop in the area (I have seen the "An Affair with Trains" website), as well as the Gadsden-Pacific museum down in Tucson (I will be in Tucson on the one day it is open in May...
A point:
Always check the Walther's WEB SITE to see if the product is available - LHSs (and modelers) that rely on an old print copy (or the book) have hopelessly outdated data!
My LHS doesn't have a clue about the 'net - so I look it up there FIRST before I place an order with the LHS...
Well, probably not - I would put a decoder in it and use it powered with the other locos.
If I had to go with a kitbashed dummy, I would go with the Walthers I suppose.
What is the loco ???
If it is an Atlas, verify the plug is is the DCC position instead of the DC position!
If not an Atlas (or an Atlas with the plug in the correct position), try using a program track.
Walthers did buy the "Life-Like" name along with the Proto (P1K, P2K) train line and other toy products made by the old LL.
However, it seems that they have stopped using the "Life-Like" name with the high end
P1K, P2K train line - the current flyer reads "New Products from Walthers"...
