    Industry ideas

Hi all. I've got my track down and running on my N-Scale door layout and I'm beginning to creep into scenery. I've already settled on having a brewery as my major industry, and I've put in a team track. That leaves me with 2 other sidings that I'm drawing blanks on. I'm looking for ideas for 2...

    defunct Z-scale bits needed

This isn't really pratical, but here is a link to a site that produces TY scale layouts. TY scale is 1:900 if you can believe it. Realism is borderline here, but still, the fact that an enitre layout can fit in the palm of your hand is really neat! http://www.tiny-trains.com/

    Pupolarity Of The Hobby

I was actually touching on this recently on another site. My point was that it seems that there is a general conception that you have to be either 6 or 60 to be into trains. If you're in the in-between age, people seem to give you a funny look if you "play with toys". I'm 32, and pretty much all...

    E-bay

I just picked up a brand-new N-Scale LifeLike GP18 for $15.50. It's the older version with the plastic frame, but it's still a very decent loco. zedob is right, you have to watch and wait. The same loco from the same seller sold minutes before this one for twice the price. Overall, I've...

    how "complete" is your layout?

Well, a model railroad is a model of the real world, and the real world is never finished......

any tips for using glue to secure track to cork

Gluing the track down should be sufficient. Also, if you paint your track before you ballast, I find the paint acts as a sealant and the track doesn't move when it gets wet.

    The 70's in Ontario

I remember most of those stores.....and the Pop Shoppe just popped into my head! Ah, childhood memories.....Sorry if I'm making people feel old, but I'm at that age where it's starting to happen to me too! Also, I'm thinking a an old-school Tim Horton's is a must! Another question: Anyone...

    The 70's in Ontario

Hi all, I'm modelling Ontario in the early '70's, and have a few questions about that period that anyone older than me can answer (I was born in '74) to add some authenticity to my layout. 1. What was the price of gas back then (before the oil crisis)? 2. What was the major Canadian lumber...

Need some suggestions on diesel weathering

I find nothing is more effective at modelling dirt and dust than pastel chalks. You can pick up a set from an art store for a couple of bucks, and they will last you forever. Just grind some up on a piece of paper, and drybrush it on. Careful not to touch it before you dull-coat it! A few...

    Finally building first layout

Hi, I'm building an n-scale layout on a door, and I have a couple of questions before I begin: 1) Do I need to solder the track, or is that overkill on a fairly small layout? I'm just using regular code 80 snap-track for this attempt. 2) I have two new Lifelike/Bevbel CPR F9 (or F7, they...
