slot cars and trains - anyone for animation? (new subscriber)

Welcome Jerry!! I am also interested in Cars/Trains. I build model cars and collect 1:18 and 1:24 diecast. Do you have a 1:1 Gremlin? My first car was a 72 Gremlin, the color was Jolly Green, I loved that car but due to the Ohio winters, the body rusted and in 78 I got another car. Wish I could...

Its Monday 3-06-06, Weekend modeling accomplishments!

Did not get any layout work done, but decided to take advantage of a sunny Saturday and do a little railfanning at Berea Oh. Got some good shots of foreign power ( a couple CP Rail, and a Santa Fe in the yellow/blue paint scheme) Also am amazed at the number of new BNSF pumpkin units on CSX ( I...

    Interesting diesel lineup in Seattle

I see BNSF and UP units in Berea Ohio on a regular basis on both NS and CSX. Something I have been trying to photograph lately is the number of rail cars in older paint schemes such as Southern and Norfolk Western etc. Last night I saw a Frisco hopper car in coal train on CSX.

what equipment needed to listen to Railroad radio?

I bought a scanner at Radio Shack years ago, still works although out dated, I am looking to get a new scannner. R/S has some for around 129.00. I also bought a book from Kalmbach Publishing ( they publish TRAINS and MODEL RAILROADER) that lists all the frequencys for the various railroads, this...

Why are RR and model RR books wrapped in plastic by retailers?

My local newstand puts most of the magazines in plastic, this really bothered me as I like to skim the magazine to see if there is anything I am interested in to justify the 5-6 dollar cover price. When I asked the manager about this, he told me he had many readers who would read the magazines...

    1950's HO vehicles

There is a company call IHS which has regular ads in Model Railroader that has 50's and 60's cars in HO scale for around 3.00 each. You might check them out. Also I have found HO and O scale cars at WalMart and Target for less than 5.00 each.

Is the Real Thing getting, well, blah?

IMHO means in my honest opinion, in my humble opinion. I know railroads are a business, and everyone is running as lean as possible, but, I miss the Chessie days with the nicely painted locos. I railfan NS and CSX, and about the only difference you see on NS is the occasional gray ghost (...

    Husky-stack Question

I have another question regarding HO stack trains operations. My Con-Cor set I have is marked with alpha A, B, C etc. A friend indicated they cars should be run in alpha order, I noticed on 1:1 trains, the cars appear to be in no apparent order. Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks

How can I get an old train set running good?

#225 is an Alco which was an A-B-A setup. It believe it was made around 1959 to about 1961 era and could be gotten seperate. A friend of mine had one and it came in a set with the exploding box car, and he got the set around 1960.

How can I get an old train set running good?

The switch you are refering to is to lock the direction of the locomotive and to prevent the switching of direction when you turn the transformer off and on. As far a the track, you can use either Scotch scouring pad or Bright Boy to clean the track. As mentioned earlier, clean track and good...

Its Monday 11-28-05, Weekend modeling accomplishments!

Since I was only off on Thursday and Sunday, I spent Sunday putting up Christmas Deco as it was in the 50's (unusual for NE Ohio in November) but Thanksgiving Day was snowy and cold so the family decided to stay home. Later in the evening I was able to build a couple of HO kits I bought...
