When is a booster required on a DCC layout?

I am somewhat confused  about when a booster unit is needed for a DCC layout. Is there always one required or does it depend on the size of the layout? I am looking at purchasing the new Prodigy Advance System (when it finally is available) and don't see a booster as part of...

    Made some progress this week...

Thanks for all the feedback... Thanks for all the feedback. Having natural light is a nice thing ... except at night :D Now lets talk about the grade... it is rather steep on the far right turn and I have to figure out a way to keep my track level coming around that tight 30" curve and...

    NEW Prodigy Advance DCC System...

FYI, I had some correspondance with MRC today and found out that the NEW Prodigy Advance System has integrated both Train Controls and Accessories control in one handheld LED unit which I find very interesting compared to the older model where you needed a throttle and dispatch control to...

Anybody in the Miami area using DCC?

Morning Ya'll, I was wondering if there were any of you out there, who live in the Miami area using DCC that I might contact as I embark on the DCC adventure myself? It helps to have a knowledgable fellow model railroader to bounce ideas off of. Cantact me via email if you can help me muddle...

Please make this simple to understand...

Thanks for all the great info. Here is another question...can I buy locomotives with decoders already installed so they work right out of the box? How does the cost compare to doing it myself? (Keep in mind I am an electronics klutz) Thanks,

What have you achieved so far in 2004

We finally cleared out the train room to build a new layout... My train room began to look like a garage sale gone crazy :( with all the crap that accumulated on and under the layout as well as in the room. I have included before and after pictures elsewhere on the forum so check em out...

Please make this simple to understand...

I am thinking about DCC control for a new layout I am building and am new to the whole DCC system. Here are my questions; 1. Do all DCC systems control turnouts, sound & lights from the engines? 2. Does the sound come from the engines? 3. Does the decoder in the engine do all...

Sorry for the dumb question ... but...

Does the sound of the engine running, whistle, bell, steam, etc. come from the locomotives themselves or from the DCC System console somehow? I am new to this and am considering going with DCC for my new layout but I am somewhat confused about the particulars of this system. Thanks,

New questions about MRC Prodigy DCC Hey Dweller THANKS so much for the link to the comparison chart. This will help me make the important decission on which system would be best for me. Anyone using the MRC Prodigy DCC System AD150

Thanks for all the input. Since my layout will be rather small I am wondering which system would be best to invest in. Here is what I would like to do; -Run about 4-6 trains -Be able to control turnouts -Be able to have some sort of sound control in the engines -Have direction light...

Anyone using the MRC Prodigy DCC System AD150

I am considering moving up to a DCC System since I am creating a new layout from scrath and wondered if anyone is familiar with the MRC Prodigy DCC System AD150? Is it true that it is as easy as the ad says? It is my understanding that NO blocks are necessary, you can run MULTIPLE trains at...

Okay folks let's talk reversing loops...

YES...you guys are correct am not using DCC only DC... I will do some reading on the PECO turnouts to see what you are talking about. I have uses atlas turnouts on past layouts and switched polarity manually when reversing the locos on the ISO tracks. I might continue doing it that way but was...

Okay folks let's talk reversing loops...

Hi Ya'll, In the past I have used reverse loops and did the manual switching of polarity myself in order to turn trains around in a reverse loop. Now the question... has anyone come up with an automatic way to do this other than converting everything to DCC? Any advise would be welcomed...
