    Discovering UHU02's 2001 Discovery One

Here's the parts for the connecting sections on the spine. The round washer in the centre of the assembly has a handy red point on it which you can use to align with the seam on the papers wrapped round the spine. I couldn't find any reference as to which way round the two conical sections go -...

    Discovering UHU02's 2001 Discovery One

I believe the advice is to take a stress pill and think things over - that and keep asking "What are you doing (Dave)?" ;)

    Discovering UHU02's 2001 Discovery One

I've found it best to create the nuts in batches of three, attaching the outer belt, and then once you've folded in all the tabs, glueing each of the 'faces' in place. Prior to attaching the belt, you'll want to work the printed sections around the shaft of a screwdriver (e.g.), so that you can...

    Discovering UHU02's 2001 Discovery One

Hi again. Well here goes Build 3! A bit of research before I even started this. I read @DanBKing's build thread for his version and will be hoping to follow his waterforming technique for the command module. To begin with, though, it's all about the spine of the ship and I've chosen a piece of...

Yes, space is an issue. Not sure where it will go! But I can't wait to try a build

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

Thanks Zathros. My Dad used to make paper 'Biltezee' buildings for my model railway using UHU in the 70s. Surprised it is still holds its own but there you go! Zip Dry comes in a super-glue type bottle, is that right?

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

Thank you Zathros. Looking forward to having another go once I've learned some new skills. Very pleased this one is so presentable. Discovery should give me the opportunity to have a go at waterforming and using some different glue. Is regular UHU a recommendation (clear, in a tube, been around...

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

Thanks Cybergrinder. The talent on show on this site is incredible. I could not believe what was achievable with paper and had to have a go. Hoping to get better each time!

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

So - continuing a build thread that will hopefully be better than the model... :) Here's my first completed 'claw'. I had thought this bit would be really tricky and intricate but I guess it's a testament to the design of UHU02 that it works so well. So far so good anyway...

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

A pity - but to be honest I'm pretty happy with my pod as it is. Would love to hear more about this, so thank you! :) I've just bought some 200gsm for my next model! To be honest, I think some of the 'buckling' round the back was down to me not paying enough attention to pulling the strands...

    UHU02's 2001 EVA Pod - Cautionary Tale

Hi Gandolf50 - yep I'm using what I have, which is woodworking PVA. White glue! I'm sure I've an awful lot to learn but I have been using it sparingly using the end of an old steak knife and 'decanting' it first on to an old screw driver so I can just pick up small amounts. Makes me sound like...
