The most challenging aspect of MR ...

Jon, That's a lab puppy on the back of Rudy the Mastiff! Rudy wasn't sure what to do, he looked a bit worried. I have never seen a white chiwawa. Pretty cool. Rudy would probably eat him up in one bite! :) Dog

The most challenging aspect of MR ...

Here's a list of items describing various different building tasks on a model railroad. Tell us the one you like the best and least. 1. Benchwork and subroad bed cutting 2. Track laying and dialing it in (no backbends, kinks, etc.) 3. Installing Tortoises (try it using DS-44 stationary...

Which of these represents your local train shop/dealer?

Couple of questions, and I anticpate some good responses from everyone, so here goes: 1. Is your local dealer (and please don't tell me you live a zillion miles from your local hobbyshop) a one man, sitting behind the counter guy who might be smoking a pipe or cigarette and the store stinks...

    Hoping for more ...

You guys went way off topic. The topic police would have cited you for this. We've already seen this scale fan stuff on the diesels. So let's get back on topic. Here are a couple more controversial and perhaps confrontational questions: 1. What percentage of model railroaders are in...

    Hoping for more ...

I am in California - the land of controversey and intrigue. I am so grateful that we have had six responses to these issues. The reactions, especially about the engineer costume are particularly interesting. My intent is just to get some new discussions going and have some good fun. Aren't...

    Hoping for more ...

I belong to two forums: Railroad.net and this one. Seems like both forums are very quiet and needs some dynamite to ignite these boards. How about some friendly controversy? For example: 1. How do you react when members of your local train club come dressed in striped Engineer Overalls...

Buy trains from Ebay? What are you looking for?

I usually watch the HO material several times a week. I mostly buy some rolling stock or a loco here and there. There are some nicely weathered cars from time to time. For me, it is a convenient way to buy some stuff I'd like without running all over town, and most of the prices are fair and...

    Whats Happening ---??????

I think ben is right. In the 60's it was: "Where have all the flowers gone?" Now it's: Where have all the HOer's gone? It would be nice to start some new threads, even if they generate some friendly controversy. I think of a few to ignite the fire in the meantime. How about the rest of you...

You built the bench work, layed the subroadbed and perfected the track ... now what?

Exactly Ray, I know the rut. Once you start the other stuff, the trains go back on the shelf begging to be run. Some of us don't have the patience, but I am learning. Nice layouts don't come easy, and I have learned that perfecting your track so it's bulletproof will make your layout 1000%...

You built the bench work, layed the subroadbed and perfected the track ... now what?

Well, I have done all of this. So I am ready to run a loco with some rolling stock. My layout is DCC, so I am so excited to hook up two leads, with an 8x8 layout, two leads will power the whole thing. I am now running a few locos with different addresses. Now I go into stall. I am not...

    What's on order ?

How about Broadway Limited's 2-8-2 I have placed my order for the BLI 2-8-2 Loco that will be run on my DCC (Digitrax) layout. If you haven't seen some of their products run, make it a point to check them out! Dog

GE 44 Ton Locos - Who makes the best unit?

Thanks to all! I appreciate your responses. I figured the DCC ready might make a better runner because it is a newer model. Also, since I run DCC, I can install a decoder! Thanks again, Dog

GE 44 Ton Locos - Who makes the best unit?

My understanding is that Bachmann makes the 44 Ton units, but which series runs the smoothest? I bought one in a white box that wasn't worth a nickel. I have been told that the black box Spectrum series is much better. I know they made two series, the master and then one that is DCC...

    What's your era

I model pre-1950 so I can have a little bit of everything going. There are so many great steam and diesel locos out there, I kept my layout generic so I can run lots of my favorite pieces and remain reasonably prototypical. For me, its all about having fun with your own railroad!

    Who is running DCC?

Digitraxx from the start This my first post and enjoy all the tips from the pros. I am beginner enjoying the Super Empire Digitraxx system. I am getting excellent support from my train store. I have an 8x8 layout in a 12x12 room. I have enough room to add a nice "L" when I am ready to shift...
