Do you watch the eBay HO Category?

Is anyone tired of seeing the seller who offers the train collectors software a gazillion times at the "buy it now" price of $9.95 What gets me is that he has to list the same item 15 times in row, what a pain this guy is... DOG

    Successful ballasting

I am not an expert, however, from what I have read and tried, this is one way to achieve good results: 1. Do not place any glue or adhesives on the roadbed or track. 2. Lightly sprinkle your ballast from a cup, just a small amount at a time. You can always add, but it is difficult to...

    Layout Update

I love to read and learn. I bought Dave Frarry's book that uses the water soluble methods. We also purchased a few videos to watch on scenery building. All I can tell you is to read, read and read. Also, find the best modeler at your local hobby shop, give them some business and listen -...

    Layout Update

I am not sure how smooth the coat of hydrocal should be before texturing, so we're just winging it. We also colored our plaster with household latex flat and some raw umber liquitex acrylic.

    Layout Update

Well, I think I've got my 16 year old hooked, he decided that he wanted to work on the layout instead of going out with friends for New Year's Eve. Here is the first Mountain and Portal we've ever built... Gentlemen tell us if we are even close at our first shot at this, does the mountain...

    Turnout #6

David, I think you bring up some good points (pardon the pun). About 10 years ago I tried my hand at building a 4x8 N scale layout using an Atlas track plan. The turnouts worked very well. I was using DC and wired up 17 switches. The Kato Mikado's ran beautifully through every turnout...

N Scale Modeler: As the soup guy said in Seinfeld: "No HO for you for one year!" DOG P.S. The soup server in Seinfeld also played the Blackjack dealer in the first Austin Powers movie back in 1997. "I suggest you hit sir." A piece of non-train trivia.

I just gotta know - please lots of responses!

Larry, I think 30 locos is reasonable. That qty. should satisfy most normal folks. But I am not normal. There seems to be something I would like to buy that exists or is coming out. For example, the Brooklyn Ltd. is coming out with all kinds of new items, 2-8-2, Switchers, etc. I'd like to...

    Turnout #6

I like the Shinoharas. I use tortoises and the key to the closure pressure is throwing away the flimsy spring wire they provide and using .055 dia. srping wire. The larger diameter is stronger and holds the rail tight. Sometimes I still have to tune the rails with a file. DOG

    Do you....

Yes, and although I am constantly cleaning my track, I keep an eye on wheels of rolling stock. A Q-Tip with alchohol works good. Seems to help keep things rolling good, but it may just be in my head. I have converted everything to metal wheels. Sounds nice on the tracks. DOG

I just gotta know - please lots of responses!

Okay, I have never asked this question. I need all of you to respond. It will be easy to answer this: Please state two ratios: a) ratio of the locos to rolling stock that you own, and b) what you believe the ratio should be if money were no object. Here's my answer: a) 1:3 (so...

    Atlas Diesel Made in China?

I know some were made by Kato, and those run very nice. Do any of you have the "Made in China" models? And if so, how well do they run? Any problems? Thanks, DOG
