So, what does your wife think?

My GF thinks it is a waste of money. All my hobbys are a waste of money unless my hobby is buying her $35 t-shirts, and $100 jeans ;)

    Canadian online retailers

Well, I went to the hobby shop in Owen Sound today. They dont have a large selection of N Scale, or HO for that matter, but they carry N scale track, and scenery supplys.

    Canadian online retailers

I use the one in Mt Forest. I didint know there is one in Goderich. ::edit:: Been Googling, I cant find any train or hobby shop in Goderich. On some site that lists train shops, it lists a home hardware in goderich... but home hardware is not a hobby shop.

    Canadian online retailers

Anyone know of any good Canadian online retailers that deal in N scale? I have bought stuff online from the states for the last time. Every time I order something, I always get hit with a near 50% duty tax... so any money I save from ordering online ends going to Canadian customs :mad...

    Newbie Layout Questions

Well, in my case I think I will go with a 4% upto 2" over 50". My layout is 8'x4', so I wont be haulin' any 40 car consists. I currently own... 5 cars :D The scene I am modeling usually only sees consists of 15-20 cars at most with 2 power units, so I dont think 4% is too bad.

    Newbie Layout Questions

I intend on doing something simular to what you are doing, and I have only 8' width. What I am going to do is start the grade in the front and use the turn on the end for most of the grade. I havent decided how high I am going up yet, but I am thinking 4-6".

    N-scale Layout

Yes, unless you have incredibly dirty tracks, dirty wheels make much more sense. Good call Ralph!

    N-scale Layout

Stuttering? Ummm... I am no expert with hardware, but I would think the most likely cause would be a dirty track, which is causing the train not to get power in small spots, but the train's momentum carrys it past the dirty spot. That is my theory atleast.

Converting EMD GP7 to EMD NF210

Sorry, that was a uninformed assumption. I have looked over quite a few images of the NF210s and the GP7s, and the majority of the cabs are the same, so I can salvage much of the cab in the construction of a NF210 cab. Really, the back face is the only major structural difference. I am not...

Converting EMD GP7 to EMD NF210

I really dont know about the end cab... being a Newfie, I would say that they had a problem converting from end cab steam locos, so they had diesel locos built with end cabs. Sounds like a bad newfie joke... I really never liked those G8s... but didnt see them very often in my...

Converting EMD GP7 to EMD NF210

I am from Newfoundland Canada, and I would like to do a N scale layout based on the former railway in Newfoundland. Problem is that no kit exists of the narrow guage locomotives. I am fine with using a standard guage track and trucks, but still, the EMD NF210 does not exist, in any scale...
