    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

I've noted an annoying problem with the CDN GP9s. There is a rather unsettling grinding noise comming from them. It is affecting all my units, not just one or two. Have traced it to the worm-gears being out of alignment. Made a slight adjustment to one of the units and it seems to have solved...

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

Well, I'm a big fat liar. I happened upon these Life Like units at the train store so I asked to the one run. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful runners. Look good too... except on the CP the dynamic brakes aren't blanked-out. I know, I know, nit-picking sob, but for what they're asking you'd think...

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

I had my first Accumate related runaway today. Watched helplessly as 7 or 8 Intermountain cylindricals flew down the helix at what was probably a scale 150 mph. The pile-up wasn't that bad, but one CP car is going to the rip track for a re-glue of the etched walkway. Ironically, the car damaged...

    Kato C44-9W

Well, at least now I know I have to keep an eye on their website incase they mark them down again... I need four, which at the price you paid is four for the price of one! To bad this thread wasn't started a month ago. Mike

    Kato C44-9W

The sale is for decorated only. Undecorated is US$32. Seems a tad on the steep side. Mike

    train Length

I used to run 40 cars on average on my old layout. Two to three units was the norm, including a helix with 2% grades at 19 degrees. the longest I recall running was a little over 60 cars. The only problems I had were if lighter cars were close to the headend... which would never happen since...

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

If you want to take a chance, you could wait for a little while and try to get a deal on them... if there are any left unsold with a mfg or distributor. This has paid off a few times for me personally. Of course, if there are any left. I think I'm gonna sit this one out, at least for the time...

    Kato C44-9W

Agatheron, I have 4 Kato N scale C44-9W's factory painted for CN but without any road numbers. I would be interested in parting with the body shells... but only if I can get replacement undecorated shells. Mike

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

Accumate and MT couplers are compatible. I think the newer Kato units have some sort of Kate knuckle coupler. Mike

    Is there such an animal?

There were three buyers of the SD75I, CN, Santa Fe (BNSF), & ONR. If I'm not mistaken, the first deliveries to SF were SD75M's and somewhere during their 101 (I think) units they switched to the SD75I. CN's are all SD75I's, 175 delivered, 173 remaining in service. All six of ONR's SD75I's are in...

    Is there such an animal?

One more thing. The SD75 has that little extra squre grille at the rear (below the rad intakes) on the conductors side only. And look at the rear of the Kato SD70MAC... you'll see a bit of an extension on the carbody when compared to the SD75I. Mike

    Is there such an animal?

This picture shows most of what I talking about in my above post. Mike

    Is there such an animal?

Without giving the dimentions (I don't have them), I know the SD70MAC is longer than the SD70/75I's. Two or three feet. Also, the SD70MAC has a so called "free-flowing blower duct" on the conductor's side with a hump/step in the handrails/walkway over the duct, whereas the 70/75I's have, for...

    Pictures For You!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's one beautiful layout, Scott (it was the reason I bought GMR in the first place). It's nice to see I'm not the only one out there who believes if your yard ain't big, it ain't a yard! Mike

    Does anyone know this outfit?

SD90, your right about the prices at Wig-Wag Trains. I've never seen prices that low! I'd like to order a few things from them, but have one concern. Being a fellow Canuk, how much does the stuff get nailed at the border for import duties? Mike

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

Unfortunately, I have a growing fleet of cars equipped with Accumates... not by choice. The thing is, after spending $27 - $30 CDN on an Intermountain covered hopper, I've got a real problem spending another $5 or so on putting MT's on them! Not being el cheapo here, but this really pushes the...

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

Does anyone out there have a favorite between the Micro-Trains and Atlas Accumate couplers? I'm curious to see if anyone out there has a firm favorite and why. And anyone with an operating layout and large trains (25 or more cars), how do the Accumates hold up? My layout has been torn-down for a...
