a question for all you up modelers

Though I'm not a UP modeler, I do have a few UP family cars... still awaiting my invoice. I also have shot a few UP locomotives on CR lines (when it was CR). I wonder what they charge per photo for capturing their likeness? Mike

    confused

They will eventually, but probably not for several years since the AC4400's are comming. I also noticed that Kato is doing an SD38-2 in HO... I wonder if that'll lead to an N scale one down the road? Mike

    A really bad paint job...

Mike, I shot that unit as CN 5390 trainling CN 5215 on train #275 at Oshawa, Ontario December 1, 1999. I can tell you that the multimark is also present on the grille on the engineer's side of the hood. There was also some badly peeling paint on the engineer's side at that time. Mike

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

I never had any runaway problems on my helix. If a train came apart, they cars would free-wheel for a bit, but would stop long before they became a problem. These were micro-trains equipped cars. If you have Accumate trucks on your cars then your going to have some damage! Those things roll too...

    wanted: B30 shells

I've got two undec B30-7's and two high-hood Southern B23-7's on order. I need the frames for Kaslo Shops M420W's. I may be willing to part with the shells after the M420W shells are released... just to make sure I don't get rid of anything I need. Mike

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

[B] When my father built our first n scale layout 16-17 years ago, his masterpiece was the double tracked helix. He claims it was built to 19" minimum radius on the inner track and 2% grade (I have never calculated either of these). The track was laid right on the plywood... no roadbed. It's...

    I wish for....

I have found the key to being happy in N is to be patient. Since I started in N, the stuff that the mfg's have released seems unbelieveable looking back to 1983! RTR chopnose GP9's, cylindrical covered hoppers, modern tankcars are all things I used to dream about, and they are now a reality. I'm...

    New to N Gauge

My first was a Model Power train set 20 years ago. Nothing from that set is what I'd term good anymore. I think we all start with beginner stuff. Over they years, I have found that you get what you pay for. For freight equipment, I like Intermountain (and PWRS Intermountain stuff), Red Caboose...

    I wish for....

The only way Kato will do an F7 in CP is if they do a B unit only, or if they wish to stray from offering locomotives done to match the prototype. Believe it or not, CP never owned any F7A's... they had FP7A's and F7B's. The FP7A is about 5 feet longer than the F7A, space for the steam...

You can get a response from Wig-Wag... just as long as you don't have you inbox filter set to the most restrictive level of protection! My bad. Mike

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

If you can get an answer from Wig-Wag. I've emailed them twice (first being in mid-November) and am still waiting for a response. I think most of the stuff I wanted is sold out by now. Mike

Oh yeah, definitely need a SWeep. I've got a few Athabasca handrail kits, but I'd rather see a complete SW1200RS out of the box... I'm lazy, very lazy. Mike

December 04 photo contest - Archive

December photo contest Here's my contribution. CN 2530 and 5270 on intermodal train #103 at Pine Orchard, Ontario. This is on CN's Bala Sub, 38.38 miles north of Toronto Union Station. Taken January 12, 2001 at 11:45 am. I waited all morning for this guy... there was still some frost left in...

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

The molded on brake wheel at the rear is pretty lame. I would have preferred if had they left it out all together. The paint job is excellent on my units... I didn't get the one with the big multimark. The CN prototypes I've shot myself don't have dynamic brakes... and will require notching out...

    Prototype or Freelanced?

I'm protolance. My plan is CN & CP in Southern Ontario sometime close to the current era. No specific locations, but I'll be "borrowing" from various locations across S. Ontario. I don't like the idea of being restricted in what I can and can't model in terms industries and operations. For...

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

Agatheron, if you buy the GP9's online from a US retailer remember you have to pay S&H and Duty. May not be cheaper. An observation. Two of the numbers of the CP GP9u's are 1500 & 1502... which are infact GP7u's, not GP9u's. Go figure. Mike
