Building of huge hull - Yamato 1:200

What kind of glue are you using for laminating the frames? I was reading somewhere that it is very important because glues based of water can make the frames bigger (in ship of this size even few millimeters). Michal

    Painting the lower hull....

You have to remember that acrylic paint is based on water. If you use it too much at once you can destroy the hull. The other think is that when you are painting the hull you can improve the surface of it. The cyanoacrylic glue (superglue) is good for this. You can fill all the holes and...

Lightship Ambrose - Free Model Competition

I plan to build the cafe and the tug. It will take some time because my first priority is HMS Alert now but slowly I will finish it.

    HMS Alert 1777

Yes I'm tempted to make it grey but it means experimenting with paints. I have a testing deck so maybe I will make few experiments.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was expecting that there is some general knowledge that I lack. Here you have the current pictures of my build.

    HMS Alert 1777

In Alert model you have to paint yourself (paints and brushes included). The funny thing is with "wood" parts. First you have to paint them with the yellow background and you paint with dark brown the "wood". Here you see the deck parts painted with yellow background. Here you see...

Full hulls without too many tears

Hello I was making a ladder in my Ambrose ship. Here you can see the ladder made from paper. Or you can make a hybrid where the vertical parts (sorry for the name but I don't know how to call it in english) are made from steel wire and the rungs from paper (or opposite as you wish). I...

Lightship Ambrose - Free Model Competition

Hello. I prepared the background for my diorama. Now I have to decide how to setup it in my display. There are two options as you see below. I think I will choose the second one. The only problem is the part of the pier marked yellow which I think I have to remove.

Lightship Ambrose - Free Model Competition

Hello again. The model is theoretically finished but I got from one of the viewers of my build the display box. So this I think means that the Ambrose project is back. The display size is not the perfect one. As you see below there are different possibilities of using it. This...

    HMS Alert 1777

I don't know where to buy it in US. There is an email on the website so you can contact them and ask. The kit has build description in English, German, French and Polish so I'm almost sure that it should be available internationally. It's very new. It was published in January.

    HMS Alert 1777

It fits very well because all parts are cut out by laser. The hull is made of 3 layers. This what you see now is first layer.

    HMS Alert 1777

Hello! This is my new build relation. This time I started the HMS Alert from Shipyard. Is is a very special kit. It contains everything you can need including the tools. All parts are laser cut so anything that is left is the pleasure of building it. More about the kit is here...
