Mannnn I really hate it when they do this!

Gary, I don't know if you are aware of this, but the Chessie gave control of the 614 to Ross after the 2101/AFT1 was destroyed as an operable steam locomotive in a roundhouse fire. The 614 is a very impressive steam locomotive, and in my opinion the C&O's Greenbriars were some of the finest...

    Interesting..

Why buy an overpriced catalog, and then send the owner more of your hard earned modeling dollars? Besides showing you what's available, the internet shows you if its available. If I want to see what's new, the counter copy at the local hobby shop will show me, and the information is free. Tom

The Owners/Operators of the line have several issues regarding their operations that the riders may not appreciate. Not knowing what the run is like, I can only speculate that if the grades don't warrant the diesel as an actual helper, that it may indeed be there as insurance in case of a...

    Loco detailing?

Rick, Kalmbach has a book, "How to Detail Diesel Locomotives" by Jim Volhard that I highly recommend. It will give you a good idea about the diesel detailing, and shows many examples of the techniques, rather than just giving you a a text discription. If you LHS, or other retail sources don't...

    Loco detailing?

Rick, I would suggest you get a spare SW1500 shell and the Walther's EMD prime mover and generator detail part Bob mentioned. Cut some doors off the spare shell, sand them thinner using a sheet of sandpaper taped down on a flat surface. To open up doors on the dummy unit, drill a hole not...

    It's time to go...Downtown!

Another simple stucco technique is to put some of acylic paint on a piece of plastic or whatever to use as a pallet, mix some water putty into it and dab it on the structure. Cover it completely and the go back over it again until you get the texture you seek. Use a short, fairly stiff brush...
