    Funny People

Fits me as well. I'm a retired engineer (I think) from IBM. About 20 years ago I was in my den cursing the computer and my son (who was about 10 years old) opens the door and says "Dad, it's not the computer" and proceeds to close the den door. He is now a programmer and I'm still cursing at the...

    Peco turnouts

I'm looking for the radius of the following Peco turnouts: 1. their Set Track double radius. 2. their small radius Wye. 3. their large radius Wye. I'd appreciate any information. I've avoided these style turnouts on my track runs but in the yard area I'm trapped into tighter radius in the...

    Off the tracks

Other interests? I'm new to model railroading and can't get enough of it. I'm a retired electro/mechanical engineer with strong interest in carpentry, so the fit is good. I enjoy most water activities (kayaking, fishing, power boating, lobstering, Coast Guard Auxiliary). Currently...

    Track & Strcuture testing

George, I'm also in the track testing mode and will take your advise. You mentioned "super elevated curves"; on HO scale is the pitch defined by an angle or is it established by dimensionally elevating the outer rail? Also what is the angle or dimension? Thanks, Jim I'm...

Chrlie, Thanks for the tip. I was asking/looking for ideas and the coffee filter approach is great. Thanks, Jim

What can you make of this

The brothers paid $9 each (10-1).The owner received $25 & the clerk $2. (9x3=25+2) This is a good story to show that an equation is always balances when the facts are properly postioned. It's easier to figure this out than, how Shamus can put together some material, coloring and photography...

    Vinyl Floor Material For Backdrop

Charlie, I used a plastic laminate (surplus formica) as the backdrop and glued it to the concrete cellar wall with liquid glue. I needed to temporarily tack the laminate in place with masonry nails until the glue dried. It did a good job of radially cutting the corners. Hope this helps. Jim

Thought you might like to see these

George, I didn't define the layout prototypically but instead from a theme approach. I'm setting the time frame in the middle 40's thru 50's in HO with five different arenas (coal, timber, farm/small town, yards and seaport). That's all I'm able to digest for now but as I'm getting inputs...

Thought you might like to see these

Shamus, My wife and I run with the "snow birds". Our layout is at our Cape Cod (Ma)location where we have plenty of space. In the winter we set up camp in Florida where the weather is fantastic. I'm involved with the local club in Florida and helping upgrade their control system plus...

Thought you might like to see these

Shamus and the gang, Sorry for my bad grammer, maybe I'll proof read future inputs. Anyway I did not teach (taught) as an engineer but intended to say I "thought as an electro......". Sorry for the distraction. I'll be back to my layout in early May and the first task is to cut the...

Thought you might like to see these

Shamus, I've started a layout (34' x 26') focusing on arranging 800' of track and 74 turnouts at 5 levels with a common helix. My initial approach was not to represent a specific freight line or location but instead to capture five different schemes with interesting track interplay. As a...

Shamus, Dave is right. The top of the mountain has room for more than one highly skilled modeler and sharing your talents with newcomers like me is priceless. I've just finished laying a lot of track and having pictures of your trestles, landscaping and structures allows me to set standards that...

    What do you like best

Railery, thanks again for the info on the timber trestle. Your phot implies the track is on a curve but the Walthers catalog shows a straight section. Is your's on a curve and if so did you heat the upper section to comply to the track curve? I'm still in awe on every detail that comprises the...

    What do you like best

Hi Railery, Thanks for the photo of your trestle bridge; it looks great. Is it made from 1/6" x 3/32" bass wood and did you purchase the stock or rip it yourself? Jim

    What do you like best

Probably scratch building but I'm relatively new to the hobby and have just finished the framework, track laying, turnouts & controls. Plan to install the DCC decoders and run the trains to debug the setup before getting into the scenery and scratch building. I am fasinated by Shamus's trestle...
