    WS Scenic Cement

I would start with 50/50 which I vaugely remember hearing somewhere. Then add more glue or water until it looks right. :) You should also add a couple of drops of liquid soap to help it penetrate.

    Where to start?

And some more... Now all it needs is two more buildings, two more trees, two stone walls, a field, some gravel, some roads, a grade crossing, a bit more work on the rock face coloring, two telephone poles, and another hill! Should be done by 2 o'clock easy

    Where to start?

And construction continues :) BTW, I'm amassing quite a few JPGs of various textures (tiles, stone walls, etc.) as I go along. If anybody wants copies, please feel free to ask. [Edit] Forgot to resize the image :o

    Where to start?

Andrew said: "Alternatively, what about masking the clear panels and painting the lines on?" I said: "Why didn't I think of that? Thanks Andrew. I covered the whole back with one piece of masking tape, drew the lines on it, and cut them out. It's a lot easier to leave the...

    Where to start?

Ted, I did use transparent material - actually it's a piece of the hard plastic that things come in that is welded to a piece of cardboard. It works really well - reasonably easy to cut and bend (if you score it first). The only problem is that you can't seem to mark it at all. I printed the...

    Where to start?

Shamus, Actually, I do need some help. I did the sun room today. This is the 4th attempt :o . It looks pretty good with the lights on the inside but I don't like the way it looks in the daytime. Any ideas on how to get the black lines without covering the whole thing in paper? I tried...

    Where to start?

Thanks all. My problem with projects like this is always getting started - once I start, I generally finish. Bearing that in mind, I'm going to concentrate on one wall of one building and go from there. David, this is the easy one! Wait until I get to the two chateaux :D The roof is tile...

    Where to start?

I can come up with reasonably accurate scale drawings - I have several high-res photos from 3 sides and drafting experience. It's what to do after that that's got me confused  For anybody that's interested, it's a farmhouse B&B in the Dordogne valley in central France. For my...

    Where to start?

I would like to model the attached scene in N scale. I know how to do everything except the building. I'm at a loss on how to start. Any thoughts? Thanks,

    Hey, I made a hill!

I toned down the yellow a bit with a misting of more brown, added a few trees, and took a shot from the little plastic engineer's point of view. Now all I need is a few sheep :)

How do you keep it clean????

Tomboy, That's a Cinch-Jones connector and they come in all sizes. They used to be the standard plug for the control cables in stage lighting rigs and AFAIK they still are for the smaller ones. You might want to try a music store (A bigger one that sells stage lights). They aren't a...

    Hey, I made a hill!

And I forgot one thing  I know I'm not supposed to use the "D" word here but glueing the foam with Elmers was definitely one on my less smart ideas. Elmers is water based and foam is waterproof... After 10 hours it was still wet and not even slightly stuck :( So, I went back to...

    Hey, I made a hill!

OK, this is hill #2 :) I did it pretty much the same way except that I skipped a couple of steps. I omitted the sanding entirely and I agree that the rougher finish looks better. I also omitted the Woodland Scenics undercoat in favor of my brown spray paint. The spray paint attacks the foam...

    Hey, I made a hill!

Thanks all for your kind remarks. The hill was made from offcuts of the pink foam I used for the benchwork. I used 4 layers of 1.5" in fairly random shapes. The bottom layer was cut to fit the space and then each succesive layer was offset about (very much about!) 1.5" in from the previous...
