New to the Guage, and armed with some questions!

The turntable is manufactured by Heljan kit #804. There are three problems I have had with it so far. 1. the instructions aren't very clear. 2. It isn't indexed, unless the indexing comes in when to motor is installed, but I am not sure. and 3. It doesn't match up exactly with my roundhouse...

New to the Guage, and armed with some questions!

Do you really need that 18 inches? I got an Atlas roundhouse and realized that the turntable was too small, so I got a 14 inch turn table for $30, unfortunately it isn't powered, but that can be changed. I am a cheapy so I just see $300 for a turntable quite pricey. I will have to follow...

    Getting started

Meander, I would highly recommend DCC not sure what company said it, but "it allows you to run your trains, not your track. Especially since you are good with electronics, I don't think that you will have much of a problem. I like to look at DCC as a computer network so to speak. The track is...

    Some folks never learn

Wait, what are you telling me? You mean to tell me that the engineer isn't going to swerve to miss me? This is rediculous. LOL It really amazes me the things that people do, and I though yes, I feel bad for this guy and his stupidity, but I would have to agree with NYC-BKO in...

What color do I paint the ...?

Here's another thought, depeding on how well your artistic skills are, you could try painting the fascia to look like a stone wall. Or maybe something else that would look even more realistic is if you did what Casey Feedwater did and build a rock wall out of plaster. I think that the overall...

The Third gauge Layout Party!!! :) :) :)

Progress Well, I have had no real progress. Right when I though I was making progress I was pushed backwards. I still haven't added the strobe to my switcher yet because I wanted to get the decoder working first, before I drilled the hole. I finally got the decoder working and the...

:D Sorry shaygetz, didn't mean to insult you! My friends say that guys can't use the word "cute" so I try to use it as much as I can just to annoy them. LOL Outstanding and incredibly awsome would probably be a much better thing to say. I think we should add your brick hitting smily to the...

For those interested in sound on the cheap....

Chessie, that is no problem for me, all I have right now are the cheaper decoders, run the engine, and turn the lights on or off that is all they do. I am starting in DCC and burning up a $20 decoder is a lot for me, I cannot imagine letting the smoke out of a much more expensive one. I am just...

    Lighting Problem

LOL that is always how it is, don't know how I did it, but somehow I managed to get it to do something that I wanted, and I definitely couldn't do it again if my life depended on it. I think that programing the decoder is the worse part of the whole operation. Freelancer

For those interested in sound on the cheap....

Chessie1973 where can I find more information about them? Where can I get them? I checked their web site and couldn't find anything about them. Do they work with Digitrax? Thanks, Freelancer

    Lighting Problem

Well now I feel like a horses petute. Got rid of the resistor, maybe later I will find the right one. Put in a new decoder and resolderd the ground connection and the light works fine. Now programing it to do what I want is another story. Thanks for the clarification with...

What color do I paint the ...?

Do you have a picture? Maybe that will help stir up some thoughts, I know that visuals help me a lot. :D Depending on how much work you want to do, maybe you could redo the top 1 1/2" and change it to plexi glass, you wouldn't have to paint or scenic it because you could see right through it...

    Lighting Problem

I brought in another engine with the same decoder and tested the light with the resistor but wasn't successful, I then took the resistor off and the light worked. I then tested the other two decoders in that engine and they both didn't workn with the light. However when I installed the decoder...

    Lighting Problem

I am kicking myself for joining the third gauge layout party because I am back at working on DCC and am having problems again. I am trying to add a head light to an engine with a DH123D Decoder. However I cannot seem to get it to work. The bulb is 12 Volts 50mA, the instructions suggest that...

The Third gauge Layout Party!!! :) :) :)

Dash, I could only wish I used fiber optics, that is probably too advanced for me right now. I just used a couple grain of wheat bulbs and hooked them up to a AA battery, and installed a switch on the underside. I originally wanted to pick the power up strait from the tracks, but I am...
