    Modelling an N-Scale SD75I

Hm... Kato SD70Mac + Atlas SD60 = SD75I? Interesting... Although admittedly my own non-existent bitz box would need a bit of help on this one. You mentioned that the SD75I is slightly shorter than the 70MAC. It works out to about 1/8" in N-Scale. Is the 2'6" difference on the prototype in the...

Your opinions of rolling stock brands

Yes... Microtrains offers trucks and coupler sets for N-Scale in the same way that Kadee does for HO. That's why I was wondering if it is possible to take a lower quality kit, like perhaps a Model Power and upgrade the trucks and couplers, as well as adding some weight to the cars to NMRA...

    Starting Over

So what's happening with all the lovely benchwork from your other layout? I understand things being what they are in terms of what works best and what you have space for. I must admit to a certain amount of envy that you can put a layout in your garage at all. Even if I had a garage to work...

    Coal Merchants....

My experience with Dullcote and decals have to do with the amount of moisture still present on the model when you apply the dullcote. If the decal has had a chance to fully dry and cure on the model, you shouldn't have much problem. BUT if you apply the decal, and then dullcote, even a few hours...

Your opinions of rolling stock brands

A further counter-question to you folks in this thread. I'm only starting to acquire rolling-stock for my yet-to-be-built N-Scale layout. So far, I have one intermountain and two Atlas cars (ooooh, ahhhh)... I do intend to upgrade the couplers to Micro-trains. I've seen Model Power cars up...

Did you get any trains for Christmas?

Nothing train-related so far... :( But then again, I'm still negotiating space for the layout... :)

    25th Dec 2003

My wife and I are both ministers, so we had services last night and actually enjoyed a sleep in. We don't have kids yet, so we're enjoying it while it lasts. :) Mind you, one of our cats is meowling for attention... One of our furry children... We're now getting ready to fly west to visit...

What to shoot for in a layout design?

ddavidv, is your layout going to be up against a wall, or will it have two sides to it? I've been struggling with the same with my layout in terms of space and the like, and I'm actually kind of taken with doing the door with the scenic divider up the middle. While doing so doesn't really give...

    Life Like GP-9 Chop Nose

    CN5654 in California

CN5654 is an SD75I marked to be centred out of Toronto.... or at least is maintained there... SD75I's are a variant on the SD70/70 Macs... but I don't know quite what that variance is in terms of specs...

    L-Shaped N-Scale Track plans

OKay... that's what I thought... Niice idea... Although I'd have to do some negotiation for that one :)

    L-Shaped N-Scale Track plans

Hey... now that's not a bad idea... Hrm... Although how do you figure 50"x110"? Would it not be closer to 80"x110" with 50" along the front? The kicker in the space I have is that the L-Shaped corner ends at a door to the laundry room. I can't block this, and I should give it about 8-12"...

What to shoot for in a layout design?

I read this with interest... I've been trying to come up with a number of designs for my first N-Scale layout. I've been collecting locomotives (I'm up to 4(!) now), looking at track plans trying to design my own, while at the same time negotiating for space. I have the book with the...

    L-Shaped N-Scale Track plans

Which is true... Although I do have a concern regarding turning radius, as well as what I'm able to represent on the table... Also... the wider table allows me to do two scenes, where pushing it up against the wall and shrinking to 30" actually cuts my room for both track and scenery down by...

    L-Shaped N-Scale Track plans

I had considered using Ikea's Ivar system, given that I already have it... Although I found I couldn't make the plan work and still be able to turn the trains around while keeping it slightly modular... I may give it a second consideration...

Question for a Union Pacific Afficionado...

I don't know enough about the inter-company relationships and how much of CN is owned by Union Pacific or vice versa... I had never seen a UP locomotive up this way before. I've seen Norfolk Southern, Southern Pacific, GT(duh) running on the CN lines, but never UP and never in a lash-up with...

    L-Shaped N-Scale Track plans

Hey all, I hope that the season of business and buying hasn't got everybody in a grumbly mood. I wanted some track planning advice that includes even benchwork possibilities. This is purely speculation on my part, given the area of the downstairs family room that I am seeking to negotiate for...

Question for a Union Pacific Afficionado...

This one has seen some industrial use then. It wasn't all that clean when I saw it. Granted, we've had some sloppy weather here, and so for it to be covered in dirt is not so surprising. It was the second unit in the consist, with the CN loco in the lead... they were pulling autoracks... I...
