In the book it says to test the train in DC to see if it runs properly. A train that runs well in DC should run excellent in DCC (Its a DCC equipped atlas loco) Should I just get 2 wires and hold it to my track from my old DC pack and see how my new train runs? I wont want to solder anyway...

    cheap ballast

I am a COMPLETE newb but I got an idea about the magnet and iron thing. Put the sand in a bowl and put a few magnets in there and twirl the borl and let the magnet move all around inside the sand. It will be easier i think to find iron in there.

    Bus size

I am going to do DCC, with between 1-3 trains. Do you think I should get 14 gauge? I didnt wire it up yet, one thing im worried about is how big the wire is, the size is almost as big as the rail.

    Bus size

I already have 18 solid copper, thats why im asking.

    Bus size

    Bus size

For a 4x8 layout, is 18 gauge too small? http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm It says it can only hold 2.3 amps. Doesnt 1 train take about 1 amp? Does that maen I can only run 2-3 trains?
