    Only men like model railroad?

Hey Pcentral - like the sports nut whose wife insists on watching Sportscenter by his side, you're in Heaven from a spousal support angle. Wow. My wife? Her eyes just glaze over and roll back into her head if the train subject comes up. Congratulations to the Ladies (and gents) of Model...

Tgif! Sit, Visit, Have A Cup Or 3 & A Doughnut

mornin' gang. here are two dozen crullers and 2 dozen assorted to make up for yesterday's disappearing donut disaster. (the glazed are especially good this morning) plenty to do here at the office, so the trains will have to wait until after 6. hope you all have a good day. and...

    Model Train Newbie seeks advice

Hi Ravensfan and welcome! I was in the same position as you in only May of this year. My son and I decided it was time for some trains. First - I went to Toys R Us and spent $30 on a LifeLike el-cheapo train set and set it up in his play area. Second - I went to the local train store and went...

    where

Hey guys - yellowlynn is a pal who needed a boost getting his picture for you to see here at The Gauge. Other than the fact we're buds, there's no affiliation between our model railroads. So don't confuse what he's showing here today with the BonkyRail Lines! :D As to the picture he's...

    Changing user names

Can I change my username without starting a new profile and starting all over? When I joined The Gauge, BonkyRail didn't actually exist yet, but now I am getting known by the BonkyRail moniker and I'd like that to continue here. Just wonderin'.

    Railroad Line Refugees Say Hello

Oh... gosh, uh.... gee, er.... were those doughnuts for everyone? Man, I'm sorry - what a pig you must think I am! :)

    Updated Tortoise Wiring Plan

In case some are wondering about a good way to hook up your new turnout motors, I've updated my plan specific to the Tortoise and added a cool way to keep the wiring permanent yet easily disconnected without redoing all your soldering! Here's where it is...

Getting ready to put track down

Hi petersd, I'm in the same "hopper" as you are with my little man. Started with the Lifelike set last May when I began construction on the layout upstairs. He's been next to me the whole way, unless I had to shoo him out for some reason a four year old often creates, and is engrossed in the...

    Railroad Line Refugees Say Hello

I'm here to say hello to you as well, Tom. Not that you know me as well as the others from RRL, but I've spent time here over the last few months and can assure you this is a real good group of folks with plenty to share. This is no second banana site to act as a substitute for the RRL. It's...

    Railroad Line Forums

Hi all - I actually did receive a reply from Joe when I asked what happened. To paraphrase, he shut the forum down a few months back due to a few moderators duking it out over petty squabbles. He had hoped to give everyone a chance to calm down. For a while his plan was successful, however today...

    REAL Model Railroader?

It's been brought to my attention some of us may not actually be "real" model railroaders. Shocking? Yes I think so. I don't want to know if you think you're a real model railroader or not. I do want to know what it is you think constitutes a real model railroader and what one has to be or do...

    foam or homeasote

Next layout it will be foam. The 2" stuff is harder to get, so I'll probably go benchwork, 1/8" masonite and 1" foam sheet on top of that, but for having a carveable surface, along with the sound deadening factor, I like foam.

    We've Got A Passenger!

LOL... good one Ralph. A lot of you guys, here and on other forums, are sure concerned on my little bird's rear and what comes out of it. That's funny too. I just will have to make a little figure with a broom and put him to work. hey Tyson.... watch it there, buddy :p .... she's a member...

    We've Got A Passenger!

Considering the importance of this moment to be, I believe that is sufficient reason to buy one! Excellent idea. Thanks Vic! Hey - I will also be able to use it when I buy that teeny wireless camera for the train's eye view of the ride.

    We've Got A Passenger!

Vic - being hand fed from birth and very happy with human contact, our "Olive" is only 8 weeks old and just took to riding the rails with no training or effort. I'm going to build a small perch and mount it on a flat car and hopefully get her to duck for the in and out of the tunnels. That would...

    We've Got A Passenger!

While this little one hasn't yet learned to duck for the tunnels, we're working on it! Can anyone tell me the exchange rate on seed?

    It's Here!!

BDC - I'm having 0% problems and 100% enjoyment so far and really like separately controlling locos all over the layout. It will be even better once I finish installing the tortoise turnout motors, allowing full control of trains from the control panel/throttle station. Nothing manual except...

    Scenery

Well jimnrose, that's a bit tough to do. Since earth is a different color depending on where your layout happens to exist in real life that would dictate the earth color you would use. OR you can do what I did and just pick a color you like and contrast it to the color your rocky areas will be -...

    It's Here!!

Ohmygoodness... you're right! See what happens when you start reading the manual from the beginning? Hadn't reached this far into the manual, so for some reason I thought that only applied to analog locos. Whooo! Page 35 clears this right up. Yes indeed..... another throttle. With the...

    Scenery

ARGH!! Darn the luck - fixed it. You can view the pics now. Cut and paste is handy for editing but it can also bite you on the butt when you're not paying attention.
