Tom, it's an Athearn SW-1500 switcher. I found the Lenz 1024w is too thick to mount on the motor so it won't go there. The cab is large enough to hold it, but now I've also added the two LEDs and their resistors into the mix, along with the wires. I'm going to first lengthen the decoder to motor...
Um, Tom, yes I did. :p
The LEDs are good up to 15VDC using the resistors I wired in. The 1024 puts out just over 12VDC after taking what it wants from the track, which is at 14.6VDC.
There's so much in the cab now between the decoder, a 3mm rear LED, mini LED up top, two resistors, the...
Tom, I'm more than grateful for the suggestion, but it's beyond both my skill and effort levels. I'll live with the blink. It's really not too bad.
While I've actually made everything work, my next hurdle is getting it all inside and the shell on. Damn if the decoder doesn't bump up against...
Well Tom, after re-reading the specs, and deciding (based on my wants) the Lenz decoders are lacking in function control, I was able to arrive at a compromise. F0 will remain directional lighting, with F1/output C acting as a blinking roof light - but wait... that's not a directional ditch...
I thoroughly enjoy the Lenz 1024W for its smooth running in my switcher, but am totally confused, and maybe disappointed with the CV assignment. Here's what I want to do.
white LED front headlamp on while traveling forward
yellow LED I've mounted in the cab roof should blink as a double...
Thanks Clerk. I was 10 in '66, and while I was playing with trains a very little bit, I think I spent most of my time pretending to be the Man From U.N.C.L.E. (open channel "D")
Thanks Tom.
You know, after I posted my "idea" I thought more about it and came to realize the same thing - that the color I had suggested really was no more than a real light shade of gray and the printer would only print the black to make that color gray on white paper.
All I have to say...
Nice Gavin - thanks for the pics!
I too enjoy watching my five year old run the trains. Recently I got the Hornby HO Thomas and James engines from across the pond and I must say on DC those locos run great. Decoders on order - will modernize upon arrival. Then Christmas he gets them!
Okay that's a good start. How about the models. You know, like the EMD what... GE what... MK what.... I enjoy keeping up with current automobiles, why not Locomotives too?
(oops - tomfasset added a bit more info a bit before my post - never mind - and thanks)
And yellow - you didn't have...
Can you guys fill me in on the loco companies/makes/models that comprise today's currently manufactured lines? I'm just real curious what Rail Lines would be buying if they stopped into the Train Dealer to buy new equipment.
Yard Switchers
Line Switchers
General Purpose Freight
Special...
Paul's recent post on the BCR making Model Railroading Magazine's cover has made me wonder to which mag I should subscribe. I've ordered a free copy from them to check it out.
I had a subscription with "Model Railroader", but cancelled it after three issues - 80% ads, 10% fluff, 10% useful...
Hi Gavin - I am very impressed with your work and enjoy the photos very, very much. Also, wasn't it you who came up with that out of this world backdrop method on the Gauge??? THAT Sir, is simply the best advice I've ever gotten.
I had a thought on the white lettering for your decals. Give...
BonkyRail Lines has been in operation since May, '02. Thanks to the mighty fine folks here and the other internet resources out there, we've gotten plenty of guidance and have made some most excellent progress.
Cheers to you all!
Morning.
You want to do high end digital recording, video editing and graphics? MAC. If I had the money (more expensive) I'd get one since I do those things as my other hobby - meaning no return on the investment.
BUT...
If you're NOT doing those things, stick with the PC and remain...
Hi Tyson!
All I meant was to have a little fun with your comment to Casey. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding, but I couldn't resist the temptation! :D :D :p ;)
I have to add this. Not only is the modeling over the top superb, the IDEAS you get on what to model in the first place are like no others I've ever seen. What is your inspiration? Or are you one of the lucky people who has great ideas just spring into their brains spontaneously?
chessie, no I don't have any pictures of the finished work since it's not finished.
Time isn't always available to work on the trains between work, home & family time, and the hobbies.
When it's done, or I've reached a point of showing what I've got so far, rest assured the proclamation...
