I've a dilemma to solve. Seems my wife has pretty much decided to move her office out of the upstairs to the guest bedroom. The apparent end to sleep-over visitors not withstanding, this affords me an opportunity to expand the layout further than expected. So I spent a couple hours making a...
Dan - I don't mean to appear rude and ask you forgive my candor, but in all honesty I don't believe anything dated November 2001 is going to be a good source for DCC information other than the theory behind it - even then only in a general sense.
Buyer's guides, decoder...
Now and then I visit our local train store but rarely do I buy there. What I do buy are little things I need right away like a piece of flex, a turnout, a few LEDs, couplers or a pack of wheel-sets.
Advice, guidance and how-to knowledge I get from this and other forums so he can't compete...
Hey Mason,
Look... don't listen to anyone else. Listen to and trust yourself most of all. If you believe you have:
1) a good enough understanding of what DCC does
2) considered systems based on features and how those features meet your needs, and THEN cost...
If you want it, GO for it...
oooohhhhh - sumpter250.....
that's a cooooool idea and quite original.
My only concern is that the lift bridges need to be slightly curved - the inner is a 24.5" curve and the outer is a 27.5" curve, both made with flex.
Charlie, I appreciate your deeper insight. And I most CERTAINLY do not think you an idiot or neurotic. Just better prepared to take on a more complicated installation. I do like the idea of combining parts though, and will look into that.
jon - the other industry on the western portion of the...
Kettle: thanks for the guidance. Don't go to any extra trouble - it's not quite what I had in mind.
Charlie: The pics on that link are more to my liking - thank you.
but, you wouldn't be telling me if I bought that Walters kit I would be another sheep following crowd and showing no...
I've been working on my layout design and I believe I'd like to put some kind of mining or similar industry in the below yellow circle, but know nothing about it. Can you guide me specifc to buildings, structures or other things that would be required to make it look okay? For the record... HO...
scoob, we're running HO here. I'm embarrassed - thought I included that - argh.
Thanks for the advice, but N won't work - it's just too small for my hands and eyes. More to the point and as I said, I'm only redoing the layout, not rescaling, nor am I about to can all my equipment, buildings...
Well then.... I believe that's the end of this.
I will have to buy an undecorated model from someone, spray it black and stick on some decals - I've never done any of that. Of course, at one time I had never soldered a decoder into a loco either.
I was hoping for the higher detail and...
speaking as a dad of a five year old, whom I love more than life itself, I can honestly say I feel your pain regarding your son. I teared up as I read your post.
Please accept my pledge of support and hope for the miracle that will keep you all together well beyond his 10th.
Hey Ho TRFlyer,
I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing what you mean. Any way you can make me a picture of some kind? That way, if it works for me, I can make mods to my design. Of course if you're using 3rd Planit I can send the original to you. Either way, a picture is worth 1000 words.
Thank you all.
Thus far it has been suggested, and I've added, one spur from the bottom turnouts to up and beside the lower right mountain for a mining outfit. That is a big improvement already.
BUT
Shamus, I am still interrested in that layout you've proposed, but I would sure need...
Here's what I've come up with. It's basically the same layout I've already built (and am about to destroy), only a bit larger thanks to my increasing from 4x8 to 5x9 and going with a foam top.
While I like it just fine, it's just not blowing me away. I know I'm limited because of my table...
It's all about making money. Here's my deranged thought on that subject.
No money. Yes, I'm serious. Now I have no clue on how that could be done, and know it won't be, but wouldn't it be nice if everyone (and I mean everyone) participated in a world where money wasn't needed, where mankind...
aawwww!
that's the cutest thing!
it's simply precious.... a double headed monkey!
Is this the Danish Model that has generated so much content on this thread?
I make sounds all right.... sounds like:
dammit!
SH#@!!!
crap!!!
aaarrrrgh!!
AAAAHHHHH!!!
click - (that's the power shutting off)
Time to rip this thing apart and begin anew. 4 x 8 just isn't cutting it for me - the curves are just too tight, so I'm going to advance to 5 x 9 since...
