Books my good man, "Mid sized and manangeable track plans" "48 track plans from model railroader" are great starting points I recommend the Mid sized one, Iain rice makes some good plans. If I recall theres a steel mill plan in there.

I always liked those metal trucks, they weathered themselfs If they have been around. Every second hand Athearn I ever bought had a few nice scuffs on the trucks.

Everything but the NE corridor is a huge money pit. Wont bother me none when Amtraks gone, never was a fan really.

How do these engines run? I've been rolling over the idea of buying a CF7, 60 something dollars for undecorated (Will show up in Penn Midland colors at one point) at internet trains ( I might not get it from them, my V&O DVD hasnt showed up here, yet) So are the drives on par with lets say...

Most of the smoke produced by HO scale steamers is a very weak jerky puff. Maybe the new BLI cap forward has a more robust smoke unit but the steamers I've had and run (B-man 0-6-0's) we're weak sauce.
