A Money Making Idea That Keeps Popping Into My Head

This is likely a lot more complicated than you're looking to do, but just for grins, here's some photos of Union Pacific's corporate "Mini-train" that they take to fairs, parades, company shindigs, etc. These were taken in August in Reno Nevada, where the Western Pacific RR Museum had a booth...

Idaho Springs Mine (Campbell craftsman kit)

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET. Great to see you back! I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this one, but since you aren't going to use it on your next layout, what are you planning to do with it? Photo diarama? Or maybe Ebay it to fund another project with the layout?

Idaho Springs Mine (Campbell craftsman kit)

Yeah, Doc and I are poo outta luck when it comes to shops here in Stockton. We used to have two train shops, one was in the old trophy room of the local bowling alley and was the size of a bathroom. Good folks, bigger selection than you'd think for a shop the size of an average bathroom, but...

    O Scale - Bad idea??

Not at this time, but appreciate the offer. I am looking for an HO version still though. I sold off my N Scale several years ago and decided to stick to HO. The O Scale I bought to display on my office desk.

    O Scale - Bad idea??

Yeah, this engine weighs about as much as my cat "Lardo". Alicia picked it up and said "My God! This thing weighs more than my child when she was born". It's massive. Alicia found some smoke fluid on Ebay that is scented like Apples. I think she's eyeing the thing for a huge potpouri pot...

    O Scale - Bad idea??

Glad made someones day, the UPS guy knocked on the door this morning, and I hid in the bathroom. The funniest thing though, is Alicia is so used to antics like this that it doesn't faze her. She just figures it's normal and lives accordingly.

    O Scale - Bad idea??

If I had a dollar for everytime I or one of my family started off a bad idea with "Hey Y'all, watch this!", I'd have bought an O Scale, N Scale and HO scale Centennial.

    O Scale - Bad idea??

Occasionally I browse Ebay looking for an HO DD40AX to detail, repaint and add to my collection. Usually these got for $125-$150 for the Spectrum versions, sometimes even that much for the mediocre Bachmann standard HO versions with the crappy pancake motors. A couple weeks ago, I decided to...

    foam vs balsa?

I second, third and fourth the recommendation NOT to use MDF. For ANYTHING. I used to work for Sierra Pine in between Amtrak and ST&E and we made the worst of the worst of that crap. It sucks. We used to call it "tree puke". I used to feel dirty making that crap knowing some poor soul was...

    S-1 coupler conversion?

There is a pin in the center of the older ones that you simply pull out with a pair of needle nosed pliers. You can re-use that pin, but I'd drill and tap for a 2-56 screw. The newer ones already are drilled and tapped for a 2-56 screw in which case, you simply unscrew it and re-use the same...

    compatibility

They're compatible, but they suck. Just plastic junk. I'd keep them on until they break and then change to Kadee's unless you want to be proactive and change them before hand. They'll work ok just fine with Kadee's until they break.

    S-1 coupler conversion?

Oh, absoutely, many times. Simply slice off the ears of a Kadee #5 box, put your copper spring in the box and your #5 coupler, scre it to it, and you're all set. Done it MANY times. Dang good engines! :thumb:

    Union Pacific Modelers...

I am working on building a Western Pacific "Seal" (Sea-Land) train with New Image Painted GP40-2's and Run Through UP SD40-2's in the late 1970's paint & lettering. Here are my 2 run through units. Thinking of building 1 more, but not sure. I also have a Centralia CA-3 caboose being painted...

My new custom UP SD40-2 Here is my humble offering, a Super Detailed, Custom Painted UP SD40-2 in the old late 70's paint scheme (my favorite) since I model this era on the WP and these UP units were very common out here at the time as run through/pool power.

VERY good idea George. Just one thing though, if you fly with the tool box, you can't lock it if you check it. TSA throws a fit, and cuts the lock off. Not sure what they'd do about the hobby knifes and blades. Can't carry that stuff on, so it makes it tough. That's why I HATE to fly, but...

Lift Outs; Help, How Do I Make One?

 Wow, that is one heck of a layout, would you by chance have more photos of it? I'd love to see more.
