Progress on the BNSF Whitehead Sub

My goal for the week was to get the Powder River Basin of my layout to grade and get the cork roadbed installed. I ALMOST accomplished that, but to my credit I accomplished two things that I had not anticipated doing. First of all, I went ahead and got another sheet of plywood down on the...

    Kudos to Rix Products!!

I put together my first kit tonight...a Pikestuff "The Shops" by Rix Products. I have to say that it went together very well with very little trimming and what not required on my part. I used a gel super glue instead of cement simply because it sets so much faster. With some weathering I...

    confused

I asked the same question directly to Kato and the response I got from them in an e-mail was that they had no plans to do another run of the Dash 9's. With that said though, given their popularity, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they DID do another release. As Mike said though, it may...

    confused

Kato does (or did) make Dash 9's in N scale (http://www.katousa.com/n-scale/C44-9W.html). They're hard to find in hobby shops because Kato hasn't released any new ones since January of 2001. If you want them, your best bet is Ebay or something similar. There's almost always some listed on...

    Idea for Ballasting

I wasn't really INTENT on using a glue bottle....I just wondered if it would work and if anyone else had tried it. I thought, if flushed out with lots of water, that it might be good for the fine ballast us N scale folks use. Could be wrong though.

Potential plan for n scale layout

I too only see one reversing district...which could easily be handled with an automatic reversing module from Loy's Toys. :)

    Track Planning Software

I use and really like RTS. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out it's a piece of cake. As Rory pointed out, aside from using the "connect the dots" flex track tool, many people often overlook the tool that lets you create a a curve of any set radius. This has...

    Idea for Ballasting

24 hours and no response. I guess this means no one has tried it.

    Small Layouts/Diorama's With Hidden Staging!

I wonder how well my SD70MAC's would run on that?? :D

    'O' gauge track plan-critique requested

Interesting. I did not know that. I knew about Lionel, but I guess I never paid much attention to the radius....errrr....diameter. Learn something new every day.:)

Working the layout - time to party

Wow...I didn't think it was actually possible for a layout to be finished. What do you do when you're running your trains?? ;) By the way, Rick....I'm in. I think you already knew that though. ;)

    Idea for Ballasting

I posted this on Trainboard so I figured I'd try it here too. I recently saw a thread where someone developed a handy ballast application tool made from a film canister and some other stuff. I had a thought about a similar idea and wondered if anyone had tried it. Most of us, at some...

    'O' gauge track plan-critique requested

Keep in mind I know basically nothing about O scale, but will the trains be able to run on 31" diameter (15.5" radius) curves? That's pretty tight even for N scale. I thought larger scales needed larger radius curves?? Someone educate me please.

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

Well, so far I have both Atlas and MT cars, so I have both Accumate and MT trucks (and couplers). I may get around to changing them out....or I may not....who knows. I'm nowhere near that stage in the game yet.

What is the Smallest Radius a 6 Axle Diesel Can Negotiate?

Prototypical running is what I'm shooting for. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. ;)

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

SS, I'll have to look into those pre-made jobs. I was unaware that anyone made such a thing. If you happen to run across a web link somewhere on them please post it. In the meantime I'll start searching to see what I can find. Fifer, the plexiglass is a good idea, although I'm not sure how...

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

Re: Helix Hoss Marc, again thank you for your comments. Let me clarify a little bit by showing the picture below and then following up with the clarification. The above is the track plan I have begun construction on. The maroon track you see towards the bottom...the one that...

What is the Smallest Radius a 6 Axle Diesel Can Negotiate?

Re: 6 Axle Radius Hey Marc. When I originally started this thread I was working on totally different benchwork and a totally different track plan than the one I'm in the process of building now. Due to the space constraints on it, it was going to require a maximum radius of about 15" to...

    Starting Over

You know, I kept waiting for someone to point that out but nobody ever did. A few things: - The branch line you see will go to a helix, which will go to a lower level with staging, which will be a long double ended yard with a a reversing loop at one end. So, trains that leave the layout on...

Any forumites going to the Plano, TX show in January?

Re: Chyenne to Plano Gee whiz Marc....almost sounds like you have something against us Texans. In my experience Texans are very friendly both on the road and off...and west Texas isn't any different. Regarding DFW....well, it will be much better in 2005 when the new terminal...
