    Computer Track Layout Programs

Hey, For my trackplan designs that i do for people, a part of SRDesign, i use a good variation of CAD programs, including RTS, XTrkCAD, 3rdPlanIt and a couple other non-rail-specific CAD programs. For most of the plans i'm giving to other people, again through SRDesign, i use RTS, as it uses...

    My newest project...

Everyone, Wonderful idea for a project. While i'm not exactly what some would call a dedicated christian (nor am i dedicated to any religion, for that matter), i do think that this is a pretty cool idea, just to get an idea of how big the ark could have been. I just did some quick math in...

    Roads

David, My roads that i mentioned in the above post are done on straight painted plywood. So there is enough texture to grab the plaster mix, yet it's smooth enough so that the tape does't lift and doesn't leak. If you were going to use homasote, i would almost suggest you put down a skimcoat...

    Roads

I've used the WS stuff on my BeNdtRRack module with great success. It held up to about a year of harsh module transportation and the only changes i needed to make was a piece of plastic in place of the end of the WS material where the module would connect to another module, the WS plaster...

    Update on Brakie

Steve, Finally, i found my switching lantern and climbed out from under the car...a little muddy, but none the worse for wear. Poor guy, he's lucky he got out as fast as he did. My grandfather was in for a month after his heart attack, at which time he ended up having a triple-bypass...

    Newbie with Coupler problems

What you have are accumates. Or, as i call them, Crapumates. What you need is Micro-Trains. If you want to uncouple magnetically, you really need the M/T couplers. Crapumates, for some reason, don't work as well, even with more powerful magnets. Micro-trains, however will work with a M/T magnet...

    1/87 grid paper

Not sure if a G-scale car would work, but i've been toying with the idea of making a loop of Uni-Track on a live-steam 7 1/4 - 7 1/2 inch gauge flatcar. I doubt it'd like the movement/roughness of our track, but it'd be a pretty cool showpiece. And, if it didn't work, i can use it elsewhere...

    newbie with a loudness question

Seth, What kind of pick-up does it have now? I doubt it's the low-friction needle-point axle's with the pick-up comming through the end cups. I would bet it's either a whiper dragging on the back of the wheel, or a whiper wrapped around the axle. If you could snap a pic of the wheelsets, it...

African Canadian CNR Sleeping Car Porters

Hey Guys, I've got a school project to do in African Canadian Studies, and i chose to do my project on the CNR sleeping car porters, specifically, the African Canadian CNR sleeping car porters. I'm in the process of searching the internet, but i figured i should ask here too. Does...

    1/87 grid paper

Leroy, Normal grid paper will work much better.....do you know how small 1/87th of an inch is?? Take normal 1CM grid paper, make 1 square equal to 6-inches (or 3-inches, 4-inches, 12-inches, 1-inch, whatever), and draw your plan to scale. For example, if you made each square 3-inches, and...

    Scanners?

CPR_Boy, I have a radio-scanner, made by Uniden. They're some of the best, IMHO. Yes, i think you can get them at SOME Radio-Shacks (my name for Radio Shack can not be typed in a family forum). However, they're usually a lesser quality, and most likly have less channels and a lower frequency...

    newbie with a loudness question

David, Congrats on #2000 dude! While this is totally unrelated to the topic at hand, i thought i would point out that i have riden in the cab of VIA Rail Canada #6415 before. On that note, it was quite loud, so if anyone asks, your being prototypical. :thumb: I would suggest, as...

    MPD plans

Bendtrack is simaler to (and IMHO, better than) N-Trak, but it's quite different. 2-track mainline on either side of the module (4 mainlines in total) on a 2-foot wide module, with 2 sets of 2 tracks near the outter edge of the module. It's hard to explain briefly, and i don't have the link...

    MPD plans

Have you seen the plan already, or do you have a plan selected? Bendtrack has quite a few standards, and i think you'd be hardpressed to make a normal trackplan fit a bendtrack module and still remain within the standards. I'm part of a large bendtrack club, and i know the challenges and...

New Katos in HO scale in early 2006

Thats off the famous German Site...it's almost always speculation and guesses, though sometimes they are right (they guessed the N-scale LL GP60). I wouldn't trust them, honestly, until i heard something from Kato directly. Now, i'm an N-guy, so i don't know...maybe Kato HAS Announced these...

need help asap on yard design

Cid, Very true, however, most comercial airlines run jet aircraft now (on longhaul flights, anyway), and they're the ones that leave the massive, several-hundred-mile-long contrails across the sky. I've also seen smaller prop aircraft leave contrails shortly after take-off. A C130 took off...

    Digitrax Throttles

BD, Yeah, i've found that can be a problem too...BUT i have found a way around it. Train A, Address 1800 is on the main, doing 75%. Train B, Address 9528 is going to be switching in the yard at 25%. I'm controling 1800. TO switchin to 9528, i punch loco, enter 9528, turn the throttle down...
