    stepper motor in loc

Ok, instead of a decimal stepper, the mc3479 drives the motor in the correct way. http://www.leang.com/pat/umouse/datasheets/mc3479.pdf Which means 555 clock output is used as the clock input for the mc3479. the DCC front/reverse light output to the CW/CCW input of the mc3479. And maybe an...

    stepper motor in loc

I have looked on the internet for stepper motors and I found these things. http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step/ Big site about stepper motors in general and how to. http://www.dmicrotek.com/10mmmotors.htm This would actauly fit my small N-scale diesel loc. There is a 3-16Volt version of it, so...

    stepper motor in loc

Hello, I was wondering if anyone ever tried to put a stepper motor in a N-scale locomotif. I think it would make it possible to let the train move very slowly and presisely. The only worry I have is with the noise. And ofcource getting all the electronics inside a N-scale train, although for...

    I have started construction

Hi, well I have used cork floor tiles and cut them with a knive to about 1 inch width. The hight is about 4mm, which would be about 2 foot high in prototype, which in the netherlands is very high, roadbed here looks like about 1 foot. But near towns the roadbed is flush with the street, so that...

    I have started construction

Wel, I found some cork used for floors and made it into strips, If I make it about a half inch wide I can bent in into the turns I want. But it is a lot of work to glue it al on the foam. I did find some glue that really holds the foam and cork down, it is actualy a paste designed to glue foam...

    I have started construction

I just looked at the AMI roadbed stuff. It looks nasty like tar. Can anyone give information about this AMI stuff? How does it look? Any tips? Any problems? As the balast lies on the AMI stuff, how wel does it stick. Or should I use the thined glue with balast anyway. I heard that cork wasn't...

    I have started construction

The problem is found that the pre-shaped cork was very expensive (much more then the rails themself) at my local hoby shop.

    I have started construction

Hi there, I have started construction of my N scale layout. I made the module tables and started the basic landscaping using styrofoam. What I was wondering, would I just glue the rails right on the styrofoam, or do I need a cork roadbed. I guess in reality underneath the track is the balast...

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Ok, I'll try the older design, but with the new turnouts, but I think that might be problematic. The turnouts are about 1.5 times the old size.

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Hi again, I slightly changed the layout again. I went a shop today and they could get peco code 55 track, which I liked, but the turnouts are much larger then on other tracks. So the new layout doesn't look anything like before. Anyway the new layout has got a interesting interlocking loop...

Ok, I just cleaned the whole loc, except the motor, with alcohol. And I ran it dry on the track (don't have oil yet), it now runs a 5 seconds for its own length (which is 2.5inch). Which is much better then before. I hope it runs even better after I have oiled it.

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Ok, I went back to the drawing board, I added a streight piece in the large S-bend, although now the grade is 4%, as the total length is shorter. I changed the station so all the tracks are accessable, even without extra modules.

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Ah, I see it looks like a crossing, I need crossings anyway so the passengers can cross the station, etc. I only need to point them in concrete grey.

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Hello screwysquirrel, Ah, the S-curve, yes, I will and a piece of straight say 10cm or so in there, ofcource, xtrkcat (the program I use) doesn't allow me more then 50 tracks, as I haven't bought it yet. I will only buy the track as I go, I'll start with the oval. re-railers, haven't heard of...

    newby N-scale track on 841mm x 1189 (33"x47")

Hi, I changed the design a bit, making it a bit more interesting. I made a bit of extra room for the scenery. I removed a track from the city station and made the bottom two tracks accessable The high track isn't accessable until I get new modules. Most of the track is now on the same level...

Hi, me again. I checked it and most of the friction comes from the power pickup which scratches against the wheels. The question is can you grease the power pickup? As it would need to guide the electricity. Greetings from Amsterdam, Take

Ok, I have taken the loc apart the motor runs smooth at 2 volts. But the axel of the motor is pushed by the magnets to the side of the brushes, where it pushes against the motor housing. This makes it slow down a lot, if I use my finger nail to push against the axel so the electrodes are not...

hello sumpter250, Thanks, I may just take the loc apart. It is a diesel, zo I don't have the pistons, only wheels gears, worm and motor. From the pictures on the packaging). BTW, although it is second hand, the store owner told me they got this in a large batch and haven't been run before. It...

No, the steel mill wil not be all the way up the moutain. But it is raised about 1cm (0.4") above the city station. The town station is raised above the tunnel at 5cm (2"). We'll just have to see how close it gets, I could make the mountain stop right there and let it look like it is carved out...
