    2" foam

Masonjar quoted "foam is strong enough not too need a full plywood base under it. It only needs support every 2 feet or so" Really? I'm thinking of making another n-scale layout in my bedroom and foam would be light and portable. I have space for possibly 2x6'. Current layout is 3'x4' and...

    New to N

Welcome Welcome to the Gauge and the world of N scale. Like you, I started in HO 12 years ago. I've recently got back into the hobby and due to my lack of space, I'm currently modelling in N scale. I'm still somewhat HO at heart, but the products available to N scale now are amazing. My best...

    coupler question

Welcome to the forum! Try looking into changing from Rapido to Microtrain (MT) couplers. They work really well. You can even get a coupler/truck assembly all in one. I find MT trucks run much better and smoother than the stock ones. Hope it helps. cpr_boy

    Engine Maintainance...a must read!

Hi gang. I want to share an experience I had. I started in n-scale last May and have built a small bedroom layout. I have a few Kato engines and they work wonderfully. After awhile, I notice their performance decreasing and would constantly stall. I tried everything from constant cleaning of...

    Styrofoam Grade/Riser

I used Woodland Scenic risers and inclines and found them extremely easy to work with, especially if you are first-timer. Like Doc Holiday, I used long pins to hold down the styrofoam while the glue dried. One piece of advice if you are covering with plaster, make sure you lay down and glue...

    CN & BC Rail

I've seen a few BC rail engines around the yards in Edmonton. I have a few pictures but no scanner :( Btw, I was travelling along the Yellowhead yesterday evening and saw a BNSF engine (AC4400 or Dash 9) coupled to 2 CN engines hauling an intermodel. What a beauty! I had a camera, but the...

Another idea for the Laggan Sub!

Hi Mike. Great layout. I can see you really enjoy the hobby. I've just started a little n-scale layout myself and I can't believe how addictive the hobby is. Great job and excellent pictures from the Laggan Sub too! Btw, I understand you work for CPR. How did you start? It would be great to...
