    New Job, playing with Boats!

Congratulations, Glen. It sounds like you made a good move. I went through a similar situation about 12 years ago. I decided to start my own business instead and have never looked back.

I posted a reply to your question in the HO section. Check your other post.

    HO Scale Buildings and Structures

I have several Campbells Scale models (and several more in boxes waiting to be built) but my favorites are by Downtown Deco and Builders in Scale. I love craftsman kits, but for your first one, I would probably stick with a laser cut kit and go from there. Woodland Scenics make some nice small...

    M-32 Doodlebug

I use Chameleon stripper, but I've also used Pine Sol and someone else here mention Brake fluid, I believe. I've never tried that one. Chameleon is my first choice. Welcome to Chameleon Hobby Products Homepage! Your direct source for Chameleon Model Paint Strippers and accessories! Somehow the...

    Classification light question.

Thanks, Greg. I think that answers my question. I think I'll run all four lights as white on their own function, this way I can turn them on or off depending on my mood.

Digitrax Zephyr & older MRC decoders

Thanks Thoroughbreed, a combination of your link and a little more sleuthing did the trick. I had to manually set the first 8 CV's, then set the system to 28 steps and that worked. At least now I'm not forced to shell out for 22 more decoders. If I want to change them out, I can do so a...

Digitrax Zephyr & older MRC decoders

No, it wasn't me. But thanks for the link. That's the exact problem I've been experiencing so it's worth a shot. I'll let you know how it works.

Digitrax Zephyr & older MRC decoders

OK, I've been through every page of the DCC forum and can't find what I'm looking for. I have had an MRC Command 2000 DCC system and handheld controller for about the past 6 years and, while I love the system, I have just outgrown it. So I recently treated myself to a Digitrax Zephyr system...

This guy needs some lotto tickets

Actually, in the US the pedestrian only has the right of way if they are already in the crosswalk as the car approaches. Otherwise, the car has the right of way. A pedestrian may not just step out into traffic. It's no different if there was another car or a bicycle in the road. This seems to...

For Sale: 2 Rock Island E Units 1:1 Scale- $100,000 Firm

I'm not sure about the $100,000, but if the museum were to set up a website with a PayPal account and sell some sort of certificate with the loco's on it, I bet they could raise some serious capital. I'd contribute $25 or so. I definitely think the loco's need to be preserved in their current...

Starting Over With An HO Layout

Man, I wish I had a basement. But basements around here tend to end up as swimming pools. At any rate, your layout looks good so far. Actually, it's very similar to the one I have in my bonus room, but mine is double tracked. I took it from a Linn Wescott book, but reversed the grades.

How do you take the blasted shell off?

You beat me to it CRed. I just went through this. Look at your assembly diagram. There may be some clue as to where the shell connects to the frame. I couldn't seem to squeeze the shell hard enough to get the tabs to disengage, but a very thin jewler's screwdriver inserted under the...

    New Kato BN midproduction SD40-2

That's a nice looking engine. I have to say the latest offerings by the major manufacturers have some astounding detail. Between the Proto 2000 loco's I have and an Atlas Dash 8-bw I just bought, I'd have to say they rival some brass locomotives I've seen, particularly the Atlas loco.

    Atlas Dash 8-40BW shell removal

Yeah, I have to agree. This is my first Atlas loco. I have a bunch of proto 2000 locos, and have to admit that this atlas loco outshines them. I was impressed by the proto 2000, I'm floored by the Atlas. On a similar note, I ended up pulling the chain out of the rear truck. Does anyone have...

Got an Airbrush for my b-day

You know, I just experimented with Floquil paints. Previously I used water based paint exclusively. I was very surprised first on how smoothly it sprayed because it didn't cake on the tip like water based paints, and found it wasn't as difficult to clean up as I thought.

    Atlas Dash 8-40BW shell removal

Well, I couldn't just squeeze the shell to get it off, but by looking at the exploded diagram I could estimate where the loops holding it on were located. Using a small jeweler's screwdriver I was able to sneak it under the walkway and depress the tabs to get the shell off. I got the decoder...

    Atlas Dash 8-40BW shell removal

OK. I'm completely frustrated here. Today I received an Atlas Dash 8-40bw in BNSF Heritage II paint. What a locomotive. The detail is incredible! I put it on my layout in DC mode and it's smooooth! I want to install a DCC decoder, but I can't seem to get the #$@% shell off. There are no...

Got an Airbrush for my b-day

I'll second that. Just get an old shell and start experimenting. I started off with simple schemes and went from there. There's nothing like the satisfaction of superdetailing a locomotive and painting it in a scheme not commercially available. Go for it!:thumb: Happy Birthday.balloon6
