Anybody who can make those small detail parts without mangling them has my respect. You sir, have that respect.

    SPACE: 1999 MARK IX HAWK

I'll try to come up with some kind of paper equivalent for the mixed media parts, but I'm not a model designer so we'll see how well that turns out. I never expected this to turn into a "kit" so I didn't plan on anything like that, so I'll have to reverse-engineer some stuff. I do plan on...

    gigantic tos enterprise scratch build

It's cool that everyone who donated gets a mention. I would have helped anyway, but the idea that my name will be on a plaque near an Enterprise in a museum sold me immediately! I'll take that scrap of Trek connection. ;)

LOWER FRAMEWORK Here you see my high-tech styrene bending tools. The tea candles are cheap, and with the candle holder I’m using it makes a nice set distance between the candle and the styrene. The lower framework is just 8 styrene rods bent at an angle. The neatness of the bend depends on how...

    SPACE: 1999 MARK IX HAWK

LOWER THRUSTER More progress on the bottom of the Hawk. I scratch built the lower rear thruster on the bottom of the rear fuselage. I did the artwork in Illustrator, printed out the disc and glued it to 2mm chipboard. I edge-colored the chipboard with silver Sharpie. The four “legs” were cut...

    gigantic tos enterprise scratch build

According to Steve, this model will be smooth like the original Enterprise model. The only texture will be some light deflector lines on the saucer (drawn in pencil) and the decals.

    gigantic tos enterprise scratch build

Steve says the model is basically 6 feet long, which would put it somewhere near 1:163 scale. Those little figures were supposed to be small 3-d figures of donors who gave over $100 to the project. That had problems so he was going to switch to paper printouts of the people. Then Steve found out...

    gigantic tos enterprise scratch build

It's not finished, yet. Steve got it painted last week and is supposed to start on the defector grid and decals this week. When it's finished it's going in the Museum of Science Fiction in Washington, DC. I donated money way-back-when to build it so I get my name on the plaque as a sponsor.

Star Trek: TMP Punch-Out Bridge Book

Thanks, Ron. I hope I do it justice. I opened the PDFs files in Illustrator to work on them. My computer at work can do that without blowing the file up. Seems to have gone ok. I did a test build of the science station to see if my scaling worked with my ReAction Spock figure and it looks good...

Star Trek: TMP Punch-Out Bridge Book

THERE ARE ALWAYS POSSIBILITIES…OF A MEGO VARIETY About a year ago, I managed to buy a set of the Mego 3.75” figures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Decker and Ilia for cheap. I remember when these were new and stores couldn’t give them away. I understood that because they were boring and didn’t...

Star Trek: TMP Punch-Out Bridge Book

STAR TREK FIGURES AND … THE FUTURE The model comes with punch-out figures for Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Decker and Ilia. They are made with “wings” on the side to stand the figures up. They don’t work very well and look really goofy. I modified mine by cutting off the wings (see Decker)...

Star Trek: TMP Punch-Out Bridge Book

COMPLETED BRIDGE Welcome aboard the bridge of U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701. No bloody “A,” “B,” “C” or “D.” I think this is a really nice model that looks really good when complete, especially if you spend a little extra time on the parts and how they fit. A little trimming and edge coloring...

Star Trek: TMP Punch-Out Bridge Book

CEILING RING The ceiling ring assembly mirrored the floor and walls. I cut off the tabs and glued everything into position. Where I could I ran a bead of glue along the fold where the ring meets the wall at the top to help hold things together. Since this model was not designed with...
