    Bus size

Take another look at the table in that link. You will see that 18 AWG is rated at 16 amps for "chassis wiring," which is more akin to your intended purpose than "power transmission." Power transmission assumes the wires will be bundled and in conduit and carrying at least 120 volts, as I...

Lets See Your Train Watching Vehicles

I like to sneak up on them, and tree them. :D:D:D:D

    Google Maps

They had me about four miles off, but when I checked it today, both Earth and Maps were only off about 150 feet. It looks like they are fixing things at last. I also noticed they have Linux and Mac versions of Earth available.

    eBay seller beware!

Send him an email stating that he has one week to refund your money and remove the neg, or you will file a complaint with http://www.ic3.gov/. Or you could just file it, and then let him know he can expect a call from them. :D

    Google Maps

If you haven't already done it, try Google Earth. It requires a software download and at least a moderately fast connection, but it is quite a bit more versatile than their maps.

    Boy Do I Need Help

A bit of contradictory advice here. First you say rip out the blocks and get rid of the insulating gaps, then you say install block detectors, which require insulating gaps and blocks. Could be a little confusing. DPDT (the "/" is generally not needed or used) stands for double pole...

    New coumputer-(no photos)

There is a typo above. It is IrfanView, and MadHatter's dad is right; it is a fantastic program. Makes croping and resizing a piece of cake. Get it at http://www.irfanview.com/.

All the Youth talk is it true?

No, but I got a Twin Trix. Built scads of them. Do you mean control line? I flew them .020 to .46 Saw them, never had one, never wanted one. Oh, yeah. Bet they don't allow kids to blow stuff up these days. Too bad. Makes a better person out of you if you survive childhood despite yourself...

    Radio Controlled Planes/helicopters etc

By scale all they mean is a model of a real plane, as opposed to a "freelance" design, to use a mrr reference. At least that is what it meant why I built and flew R/C stuff some 30 years ago.

Any particular reason those coaches have that paint scheme? It sure is colorful.

    Making Vehicles Move

I'm afraid you aren't the first to think of that. It was done decades ago, although I don't think they used toothpicks. :)

    When Bambi road the rails...

Note the guy starting to climb the ladder. I'll put money on the deer leaving as soon as the guy's head popped into its view. It may have injured itself jumping to the ground, or it may have jumped car to car, but I guaranty that it left. If the deer survived, it either jumped down without...

    A Little Disappointed Tonight.

He should apologize and offer to pay for your return shipping, while shipping you the correct item immediately. If he does anything else, he's not someone you want to do further business with.

    Flatcar bridges

It seems to be a regional thing. As liven_letdie said, there are lots of them in California, but I've never seen any around here, and there are two things we have plenty of, creeks and railroads. Local practice and custom, I guess. Maybe the western roads are more ameniable to giving away or...

    New Layout inspired by Television...

I love looking at good track plans, and that one is a beaut. What scale are you planning to build it in, and what are the dimensions?

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

They say designed to be printed on A4 paper. A cursory look at the site didn't reveal anything about printing on US letter size paper, although I don't think there is a great deal of difference in the two sizes. Might not matter. Then again, maybe it would.

I think we should petition Kalmbach...

It has nothing to do with being out-of-print. Copyright lasts at least 95 years for works done for hire or by anonymous authors. For most recent written work, the copyright lasts until 70 years after the author's death. Ian Rice's work could fall into either category, depending on whether...

    Pine Trees

I believe the silver tip is a local christmas tree name out there for the red fir. A lot of people refer to any conifer as a "pine tree." I once made the mistake of pointing to a noble fir and calling it a pine while talking to a professional forestor. He rapidly disabused me of the notion that...
