    im starting a new layoutand i have a ?

13' 0" on centerlines for tangent (straight) track was a common prototype standard. That's only 0.975 inches in N scale. :) It's awful tight for five fingered switching, though.

    Strasburg PA Weekend

I feel for you on that one. Reports like yours will get around, and it will cost them in the end, and deservedly so. What goes around, comes around.

    Which Track Planning Software

A picture may help. This is what I am seeing. 4.0.1 is Open Source. There is no registration code or process.

    Which Track Planning Software

Linux 4.0.B4 certainly has narrow gauge. There are two drop down boxes, one for scale, and one for gauge. The gauge box is linked to the scale selected, and its contents will vary accordingly. There are six track gauges available for HO scale, standard, N3, N3.5, N2, N2.5, and M, whatever that...

April 14th - Working on the Railroad?

Wish I could say the same. I just e-filed my Tennessee state taxes, and I had to give them a bank account number and authority to tap it for the amount due.:cry::cry::cry::cry: Don't let anyone tell you Tennessee doesn't have a state income tax. When they do, they lie, lie...

Selling On eBay Is Hard Work!

Selling on eBay is an art, not a science. Like any art, it takes some time to understand the nuances of the medium. For instance, it helps if you understand: 1. Starting with a high minimum bid puts people off. You are better off with a low starting bid and a reserve price. Best yet, a low...

April 14th - Working on the Railroad?

sign1 Absolutely, but we probably won't actually file until October, or whenever it is the extension runs out. Unfortunately, it looks like we will owe this year, so I have to get close enough to figure out how much to send 'em by Tuesday. Hope it won't be a lot. I've got my fingers crossed...

    Which Track Planning Software

Don't forget CadRail. They also do 3D and have a free demo. They don't seem to have as big a following as 3rdPlanit, but they are highly regarded by a lot of users.

    Which Track Planning Software

I have it running on Linux. It was a simple download and install from the Debian archive. No hoops involved, but I have only played with it a little, so I can't really comment on how well it works. It is version 4.0, BTW. Edit: Oops, the quote didn't mention the name. It is XTrkCad.

What's Your Favorite Style of Diesel?

Cummins. Oh wait, you mean railroad diesel. Hmmmm, for me it's a toss up between the FT and the RS-1.

    Micro Engineering Web Site

My sentiments, exactly. :( :( :( Thanks, folks. I was afraid it would end up being no web site, but I have seen a few that were so obscure that Google couldn't turn them up, so I thought I'd ask around. I like to look at a manufacturer's web site just so I can get a feel for who they are and...

    Micro Engineering Web Site

Anyone know if Micro Engineering (sp?), has a web site? Googling got me nothing but vendors. I would like to go to the horse's mouth, so to speak. Thanks.

    Stunning PrototypeTrackwork

That looks like temporary work to me. The ties are in rotten shape, and the tie plates probably aren't gauging the track properly, or there is a danger that they couldn't maintain gauge in the event of unusual forces occuring. As a temporary measure, new spikes have been driven proud in order...

    Restoring a Semaphore

Hey, that is a neat project. Is there any indication of who manufactured the signal, or any kind of marking(s) at all on the parts that you have?

Need HO scale chain link fence............

Sun screen, a razor and straight edge.... It took me a loooooong time to get bug screen out of that. At first, all I got was a mental picture of a psycho wandering the beach in Florida, sizing up a victim. sign1 sign1 sign1

    The wifey says NO

Which in modern times comes from the Rumpole Of The Bailey books by John Mortimer. He took it from an earlier novel entitled "She." The she in Rumpole's life is his overbearing wife, Hilda. The British Rumpole TV series is one of our favorites.
