    Intresting Spelling

I wonder how long that car has been like that. The weathering indicates the "addition" has been on there quite awhile. Whoever it was, it must have taken quite a bit of effort to get it to look that professional. ITLX obviously didn't care. They just stenciled right over the dirt.sign1

    Cb&q

All lower case is my pet peeve. It takes a certain level of arrogance to ask someone for help, while not taking the time or care to write a readable request. Fortunately, it is not nearly as bad here as it is in the computing lists.

    Designing Engine Yard

OK, this has to be a typo (11" X 12" X 2" wide). I assume you mean 11 foot by 12 foot by 2 foot wide, not 11 inches by 12 inches, by 2 inches wide, which is what you gave. There are professional layout designers, but they charge in the thousands, from what I have heard. Why not try designing...

    Turnout radius?

Not according to Armstrong. He says that you can even use a #4.5 with up to 30" radius curves. #4.5 22" RCR, 36" SR #5 26" RCR, 44" SR Basically, he argues that #6 and #8 turnouts are space wasters on model railroads, especially with radii of 24" or less. Other than the comment regarding...

    Turnout radius?

The Armstrong book is considered the bible of track planning. He goes into considerable detail in this area (too much for me to repeat verbatim), but these are the numbers he came up with after years of track planning experience. A lot of people recommend "Track Planning For Realistic...

    Turnout radius?

I found these in John Armstrong's "Track Planning For Realistic Operation" for HO. #4 15" RCR, 29" SR #6 43" RCR, 56" SR #8 67" RCR, 110" SR Where RCR is the radius of the closure rail (the sharpest radius in the turnout), and SR is the substitution radius for fitting the turnout into a...

I received a Trix Twin set for Xmas when I was six or seven. Haven't thought about that for a long time. Funny thing, I remember the switch controls clearer than anything else.

    why won't it work...

As I understand it, the tender section of a three truck Shay is supposed to articulate. If it didn't, it would be very limited in its ability to negotiate sharp curves, which is what Shays were supposed to be able to do, along with handling rough track and steep grades. Yours may be derailing...

    Which Track Planning Software

Makes sense. I have that package installed and did not get the error. I think that Debian may install that one by default. I can't remember not having it installed. Could be just my lousy memory, though.

Which is why I said "was." :D:D:D 13' was pretty much the norm for the heavy steam, early diesel era. Today, when 13'is specified, it tends to be the absolute minimum allowed.
