Finally got DCC now i need a lil help...

Once you've eliminated the track, I don't think it will be hard to verify the decoder, then we can figure out where in the loco the trouble is (not that I'm assuming anything!) Jeff

What decoder is it? Perhaps we can test it without a loco....

    wire size

Stranded and solid wire of the same gauge are rated to carry the same current. That does not mean they are the same size. Note that 60103 stated that stranded is physically the size of solid two sizes bigger.

Finally got DCC now i need a lil help...

Well, since there isn't a short until you add the loco.....it would be hard to conclude that the loco is not the cause of the short! So, we must think....you say it programs on the programming track, and you can read back the address. Does the light or motor do anything when you do that...

    Using flex track

On this page: Consumer Tools - Shears 2175B Track Cutter I got them at a LHS, online shops have them too. Jeff

Help me w/ DCC Specialties Auto Reverse Module

I did not find a manual for the MRC reverser, but I found several references to it as a 2 Amp unit, so your Zephyr should throw it. But the MRC unit is a slower relay driven unit, so perhaps the Zephyr sees the short too soon. This you can change by stting option switch 18 to 't', see page 46...

Help me w/ DCC Specialties Auto Reverse Module

Mr. Nut, I think you are on the wrong track, here. Your Zephyr is your command station, you are not trying to use it as a booster for another command station, and you are not trying to have it do autoreversing. You might want to check the Option switches to make sure they are not in a...

    N or HO

I think the sections are actually 30 inches, but yes, they exist. Our local store stopped carrying it, there was more demand for 80, I guess. I mail ordered my last batch from Wig-Wag. Jeff

Help me w/ DCC Specialties Auto Reverse Module

Hmmm, I can't (yet) find any documentation on the MRC version. I did hook up one of my DCC specialties versions to my old Prodigy this morning to see whether the Prodigy could trip it as it comes. Suprisingly, it did! The Prodigy is rated for 3A, which is more than I expected. I hooked the...

    N or HO

55 looks better. 80 is a bit cheaper. If you are getting all new locos and rolling stock 55 should work fine. The switches in 55 especially look better, but the whole profile of the track and ties looks better as well. Jeff

    Using flex track

I recommend the Xuron nippers. Dont' use them on anything else. I use them on N scale track and rarely have to clean up a cut. Only one side of the cut is square, so the orientation of the tool matters.

    Using flex track

Perfectly valid reasons! I just thought I'd point out Atlas' opinion. Bt if there is nothing else true in this hobby, it's that there is aways more than one right way! Jeff

    Using flex track

Atlas would disagree. From their website: How To Use Super-Flex Track Super-Flex Track has one stationary rail and one that slides, allowing it to bend easily. When bending the Flex Track into the desired shape, you must keep in mind that the sliding rail must always be on the inside of...

Help me w/ DCC Specialties Auto Reverse Module

All (or at least most) the the autoreversers I know of have some means of setting the trip current. The lowest setting on this one is well below the output available on the Zephyr, I think that's what he's using, so assuming he is getting it set it should work. It sounds like he was able to...

OK, so the blue area is even worse than a wall, we need to be able to walk next to it....

Help me w/ DCC Specialties Auto Reverse Module

Alright, I'll have a go! Firstly, don't worry about whether it is AC, DC, or BC. Out of the booster there are two lines going to the track, we'll just call them A and B. These got to the autoreverser, which conceptually has a DPDT switch that controls the output to the reversing section. It...

Not much voltage drop with one N scale loco. Even with 16 gauge at 9 feet I don't think that's the problem. Jeff
