    Ballantyne Division's Closure

I'd use flex on the curves to get an actual easement and reduce the joints. You might grab some of the shorter (Athearn Overland) passenger cars, the longer ones can make it, I think, but will take up a lot of space. That would give you an excuse to get a steamer! Jeff

    The A-1

In my opinion, the British have a completely different sense of history than we (Americans) do. They are also VERY proud of their engineering achievements through the years. They have a bit of an us against the world complex going for them, in a lot of ways deserved, and it has served them...

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

Rereading what you wrote, I think we are in complete agreement, the MRC autoreverser isn't real sensitive, and pretty slow. JEff

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

Sure, given the choice you want the breaker as quick as possible, while still allowing the autoreverser to function. And in this case, it clearly doesn't work. I believe the MRC autoreverser is notoriously slow, and some of the MRC 'starter' systems are fairly low current, so you have a pretty...

    Painting Rail....

I think that rails and ties are often a very similar color. If you spray from the side with a rust/brown color, and then from the top with a grimy black color, then clean the railheads, I think you are pretty close.

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

I think the MDC reverser may take 'too much' current relative to the output capacity of some DCC systems, and is 'too slow', relative to how quickly some systems detect a short a shut down. In theory, the reverser should detect when any metal wheel bridges a gap between the reversing section...

Then the option is to call them and find out how to get their stuff to work together! Jeff

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

I think they'll take more or your money and up the current output capability of the PA (I think that's what it said in the .pdf) That day the reverse module will see the short before the PA kicks out. Another option would be a module that has some settings, but since you already have the one...

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

This is a guess, having neither the AD 520, nor the Challenger! Your booster/command station is seeing the short before the reverse module can react. I would guess that this is because the Challenger is drawing more current to begin with, hence is closer to setting off the command station to...

    Wiring a reverse loop

The thing that makes all the numbers a bit dubious is that we always have multiple paths, yet we do the calculations assuming only the bus is conducting. It's a conservative way of doing it, but costs very little more, and makes things pretty bulletproof. Jeff

    DN163A2 Troubles N Scale

Or the frame was first built as long hood forward for something. As long as it is consistent, lighting to direction of travel, it is hard to say it is 'wrong' though it might not be what we expect. I guess it is also possible that either the original board, or the original chassis, was...

    Wiring a reverse loop

The plastic insulators are not a good solution in flextrack on a curve. They will not hold anything in line, and you'll have a kink. Better to get the track held down, and then cut the gaps when the rails can't move. Jeff

    DN163A2 Troubles N Scale

Definitely loco problem, I have a N12A2 in a GP-7, no problem. Ir the light and the direction are consistent, but backwards it is more like the back is the front of the loco. If only the motor was swapped then the lights would not match the motor. So in a twisted way the frame is right, but...

    DN163A2 Troubles N Scale

If the light is reversed too changing the motor leads only takes care of some of the problem. So, is there any way to put the shell on the other way? Digitrax doesn't have any manual or pics online for that decoder... Jeff

    DN163A2 Troubles N Scale

Paint a big F on the end that leads? If you don't want to change a cv you'll have to change the wiring to the motor, there's no other way. Is the light right or wrong? Jeff

    Wiring a reverse loop

Not good info here. At forty feet the voltage drop through 20 gauge at 2A is over .8V. Just solder a heavier wire onto the output within a foot or two of the module, and use it for the bus for the reversing section. Kevin, the tracksaw will work fine, or a small cutoff disk in a dremel...

    Wiring a reverse loop

If I understand yhe question correctly: Use the output of the reverse loop module as the bus for the reverse loop section. The input to the reverse loop module is the bus of the rest of the layout. Jeff

    Atlas Duo or NCE powerhouse

I don't think you can go wrong with the Digitrax or the NCE. The Atlas is, I believe, based on the Lenz system, which is also good. What I don't know if the expanability was taken out of it in the creation of a budget system. Jeff

Wiring DC layout for future DCC

The general answer would be that yes, you'd just select one throttle for all blocks, hook the DCC to it, and away you go. But depending on what he's planning to do he can make things easier or harder on himself, I'd choose easier. Jeff

Wiring DC layout for future DCC

It sort of depends, how are you planning to wire it for DC? How many cabs? What sort of wiring? Jeff
