    Help in identifying something

Not sure what you mean. The truck frames both pivot on a single screw (one which is missing). The inner axles are "fixed" within the truck frames, I guess, and both have large brass gears fixed on them. The outer axles are set in a small, vertical, slot and ride, slightly, on a small contact...

    football fantasy

It's a sad day (actually year) to be a Rams fan. :( Looks like football season will end early this year and no reason to watch the playoffs since my team won't be there. Oh well, I guess that means more railroading time for me.:)

    Streets for automobiles

welcome aboard, I'm also pretty new here and to model railroading so I'll defer this to those who have greater knowledge. I'm also curious about others' methods of making pavement. In magazines I've seen fine sandpaper used, spackle over foamcore and a few others.

    Help in identifying something

I suppose I'll keep an eye out for something on ebay. I always seem to find whatever I'm looking for, there. I've never heard of Postage Stamp trains, but Aurora is a name I do remember as a company that made slot cars. Thanx for the lead.

    Bridge building in balsa

Great looking bridge idea! It goes to show, especially to me, that nothing is set in stone when building a layout and things can be added/changed even if they were not originally planned for. Thanks for the photos.

    Help in identifying something

Ok, the following picture is of an n-scale engine my dad had, possibly in the 60's. It has no identification that I can see on it anywhere. The frame, as well as the body are some kind of metal (steel?). I remember running it along time ago and it was the most gawd-awful sounding, clunkiest...

    My first Model RR project

Update: Sorry, nothing really to update. I did just get back from my first train show/swap meet in Joplin. Boy, I'm glad my funds are limited, cuz I coulda spent a lot! I refrained though, thinking I better just stick to the present rather than buy too much for the furture. A quick...

    Prototype paint schemes

Not sure if this is the right board for this question, but here goes: I have a Bachmann 4-8-4 decorated with Santa Fe markings and I am considering re-painting and decorating it as a Frisco "Meteor". Is there a place on the web to find color photos or color diagrams of paint schemes for...

    scratch building

I just finshed gluing a diorama substructure using nothing but foam core and Elmer's Carpenter's wood glue (the yellow stuff). It worked very well.

    My first Model RR project

Thanx! Here is a closeup (note to self: Next time use a tripod! ) of the abutment with an N car for size comparison. In case anyone is interested in trying my experiment, or expanding on it here is what I did: Rocks: 1)Sifted handfuls of crushed rock and dirt through 1/4"...

    My first Model RR project

Hello everyone! I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was as delicious as mine. Here are a couple more pictures of my slow progress: I decided to try the E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G foam, and boy does it expand! After it calmed down and hardened a bit, I did some preliminary carving down, I'll probably do...

    My first Model RR project

davidstrains - Your suggestions are great, and I'm glad you posted them here as someone who has gone through them, as I will sometime. I will be using them, and others here, for reference when the time comes. Since this is a non-op diorama, I won't be able to experience benchwork, working...

    My first Model RR project

Thanks for all the positive support, this board is awesome! Yes cpr, this is my first attempt. But after years of reading magazines and how-to books, I feel like I've always had the basic knowledge. I'm sure as things progress though, I'll run into areas that require answers to questions I'm...

    My first Model RR project

Ok, since my first scratchbuilding project has come to a temporary halt (need some detailing parts), I decided to take the next big jump....a diorama, as was suggested in my inital thread. Here is the first picture of what I have done so far. Basically just a shell, entirely of foam core. I...

    Foam....an expanding question

I can attest that he is right, it keeps on expanding. I've used it for sealing drafty windows and door frames, so I guess that makes me an experienced user of GS? Maybe the trick is to NOT apply it under roadways and allow it to push it up. Maybe use the crumpled newspaper trick under any...

    Foam....an expanding question

Just found a thread on the n/z board (Copper Ridge Railway), where expanding foam was used to create scenery. Lot's of pic's and posts, and a very interesting thread. The foam looks like a wonder product for fast scenery.

    Copper Ridge Railway under construction

I just want to say that this is an EXCELLENT thread. It's great to see a project like this from start to finish (or nearly finished?). It also answers a question I posed on the "scenery" board about expanding foam. I might try it myself on the diorama I am planning. I just wanted to bring...

    Gluing metal to wood??

Some good suggestions here, I'll have to take a trip to Wal-Mart to see what they have.
