What is the Smallest Radius a 6 Axle Diesel Can Negotiate?

Curves Hoss, Thanks for the update!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like some really nice prototypical running. Ya put your right foot in, ya put your right foot out, and do the Hokey Pokey! LOL Keep us posted on the progress. Marc:thumb:

    Keystone Shay NWSL upgrade

Keystone Shay The T-boiler sounds good. Then try a Dunkirk bash with one. I tried one of the little open frame motors and was not pleased with the performance. I filled my boiler with malable lead for more weight, so no room there for any type of electronic module. I ran a piece of...

Middle Earth I could handle New Zealand, definately! Did someone say Hobbit? I will have to look back at a friend of mine's layout (1:20.3), it is named after much of the "Hobbit". marc

    Steamers

N Scale Steamers Since Kato brought out its Mikado a few years ago (at that time, even brass couldn't beat this baby), all of the Bachmann, Model Power, etc were garbage. Some of the older Atlan/MDC/Rivarossi, etc. ran nicely. Today, the new Bachmann, MDC, etc. are fantastic. Stay away from...

What is the Smallest Radius a 6 Axle Diesel Can Negotiate?

6 Axle Radius Hoss, Don't run it on anything less than an 18 inch radius. They may negotiate a smaller radius, but, look hokey! From the looks of your layout plans, etc. this looks like a very nice design. Don't ruin it with tight radius, etc. When you get less than an 18 inch radius and...

What Is The Minimum Radius for a Helix??

Helix Hoss Hoss, The first thing to consider is, what type of rolling stock, motive power and lenght/weight of trains you will be running. You need to remember that basically, a 1% grade robs you of at least 25% of your pulling power, plus you are negociating curves which robs you of even...

    longest N scale single bridge

N Scale Bridge If you want a long bridge, take 2 Katos and peform a little splicing and dicing. You would probably be wise to put one pier in the middle though. That would look good. Also, Heljan make one heck of a long trestle.

Colorado Landscape Jason, Hi! Welcome to the Gauge. Looks like you are modeling the Basalt, CO area. Basically, a lot Basalt mining in that area. I think the era most interesting would be the 30s and 40s when Basalt was more readily a mineral used. You should be able to get alot of...

    Keystone Shay NWSL upgrade

Motor Isolation Hi, Stay away from the small open frame motors, these are not can motors and do not work well. If any of the NWSL Keystone shay power kits include the small open frame motor, order a small can motor. NWSL and A-Line once again have the small 10x20/12/20 motors which are...

    Keystone Shay NWSL upgrade

Keystone Shay The motor is isolated. You will have to run lead wires to the +/common brushes on the engine. There is not a lot of room in the tender for much more than the can motor. I am not sure whether you will be able to fit a DCC unit in the engine. I was only able to fit a very small...

    Keystone Shay NWSL upgrade

Keystone Shay I have built several and also bashed one into a Dunkirk. (The Dunkirk bash is great). This kit is not for the faint at heart, let alone powering it. NWSL has a nice kit for powering, however, i would suggest adding a 10 x 20 mm motor with a flywheel. The newer motors supplied...

Plano Show Hemi, Good choice. Beware, DFW airport is a nightmare. I have flown into DFW many times, just make sure you have plenty of time, etc. I am a hemroid from the 60s and early 70s, nothing like the rumble of a hemi under the hood!!! Marc

Any forumites going to the Plano, TX show in January?

Chyenne to Plano I would suggest 1-25 to south to Albuquerque, then east on I-40 and then south on 1-135/35 to Dallas (I-135 heads sout at Salina, KS to Wichita). The two lane Texas roads are hazzards, poorly maintained in some areas and not so friendly people in some of the west Texas hick...
