    DCC on board--

These are two GP30's from Bachmann. They both run great on DC as stated, but are set up to operate on DCC if desired. I will try to find the instruction sheet that came with them or call Bachmann for a copy. Thanks again guys for your input-----John / Josh

    DCC on board--

When you buy a diesel engine and the catalog description says, " DCC on board " and it is DCC equiped, what exactly do they mean? If you want to run this engine on a DCC system, what will have to be done to the engine itself? Will it need a chip or are they saying it already has one and it needs...

    OK, now what has happened----

Again , Thanks guys, for the helpful suggestions, but I'm going to have Bachmann make it right. I checked everthing that you all thought of, short of taking it apart, and couldn't find the problem, so I'll let them fix it. I will post what was wrong so that we all have one more bit of HO steam...

    OK, now what has happened----

Hey Wayne, I knew you were still out there somewhere! Iv'e put it back on the rails three times, to no avail. Checked the connections and the connector pins twice, this tender has pins to keep the trucks straight, I tried to reverse them and you can't, checked for a broken wire, all the wiring...

    OK, now what has happened----

I checked to be sure truck was not turned around. There are small moulded in pins that assure trucks will not reverse. They can't get turned the wrong way. I also checked for broken wires, bent pins in connections, all ok. Wheels on tender were a little dirty, but not excessive. Iv'e only...

    OK, now what has happened----

Shaygetz--How can I tell? The front and back of the truck sides look the same and the pick-ups are centered and go the the center of the axles. I don't see any side to side differences-----------John

    OK, now what has happened----

Dave, I didn't check the light, but no motor hum at all. Can't be gears locked up, it's belt drive and I can move the driving wheels back and forth just a little due to the normal amount of play in the system when stopped. Another thing is the complete drain of power to the other...

    OK, now what has happened----

I have probabely used my Spectrum Decopod maybe 4 or 5 times since I got it. It's only about 2 or 3 months old. Sort of my favorite. Thought I'd exercise it a little tonight, put it on the track, checked all the wheels and gave it power--nothing. Checked for dirty wheels, dirty track, checked...

    Modern Diesel Locomotive Length

Chris--- I just sold two GP30's to a friend, but while I had them, I had no problem running them on 18" and 22" curves. In fact, they looked fine on the 22" track. --John R

    quality check--

Seems to me that the reason for the side tanks was to eliminate the need for a tender. I have no idea if any of them ran with both or not. Another one that is really interesting is the Garret, great big monsters used a lot in Africa that have a pretty much normal looking engine section...

    quality check--

Loren, the first ones I saw were the tank engines or logger engines, a couple months ago, and knew I would have to have one eventually. Then, not too long ago, I was checking out the steam engines on Hobbylinc.com and saw the ones with the tenders and that was it. Had to have one. Trouble is...

    quality check--

Loren, Tom and Josh, thanks for the replys. I was hoping to get positive feedback cause I really want this engine. I like how it looks and can't wait to watch the articulation around the curves. The 18" will be too sharp, but it should be alright on the 22". I'll put something on...

    quality check--

I'm considering sending for a 2-6-6-2 by Mantua/ Model Power. I'm hoping some of you have some experience with this manufacturer and can give me some feedback. Iv'e owned engines by Bachmann, Broadway Limited and IHC, and I know from the forum that Athearn and Proto are a good bet, but I'd...

What engine should I get for these cars

The Bachmann Spectrum 10 wheeler would look real good pulling those reefers. You can get one from Hobbyfrenzy.com. Very fair price and quick delivery. John R

    Controller scale---

Michael, I didn't think it was a measure of scale miles per hour, poss amount of current or something. My EMD SW7 just starts to crawl at between 10 and 20, same with most of my steam. They all still go much faster than I would ever run them on the top end of the scale. An interesting side...

A sad day on the rails!

Five years ago my wife and I were living in San Juan Capistrano, about 60 miles north of San Diego. One of the Amtrac stations was in San Juan Cap. Many of the areas of track between the two cities is right along the beach and if you were between crossings [no diesel horn], with the sound of the...

    Controller scale---

Thanks Jeffrey, I thought maybe the numbered scale was more of a refference point than an actual measurement of power and I'll try the brake button and see if it's working.

    Controller scale---

I'm using a Tech4, MRC 220 controller, DC, and wanted to ask about the graduations and numbers around the control knob. I have to have the power turned up to between 20 and 30 before anything starts to move. Is this pretty much normal, or do I have dirty track, even tho I clean it frequently...

Get a load of this (Part 2)...

Wayne, your scrap loads are fantastic. I really liked how you managed to put a few dents in the sides and edges of the gondolas. And, once again, I'm very impressed with your weathering-------John R
