    Childhood train influence?

I would also say Childhood expiriences led me to the hobby. Trains were never really part of my everyday life, but somehow enough embers kept warm to do so. My grandparents bought me a lionel set for my birthday when i was six. It would only really come out for christmas until later (in...

    Athearn buys Tower55 Tools!

Hey, if that means they are cheaper, i'm all for it!

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Those Atlas wheelsets are much to big! Metroliners run on the smaller sized wheels, roughly the same size as the wheels on the Amfleets (I'm guessing they are 36"? 33"?). A diesel switcher's wheelset is 40". If it works, it works, but I still think i need to find a smaller wheelset.

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Which wheels and gears did you use to replace the broken Axles? i have a similar problem.

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Yeah, i've been working a bit more on it. I'm thinking i might be able to get more space length wise, so i might "extend" the plan. It also makes it possible to model the NEC again, but i feel i developed this plan so much more, so i might stick to it. I'll see if i can successfully aquire more...

    MRC decoders

Actually, the SD45-2 came with the brilliance decoder installed at the factory. Its one of the Genesis sound units. And it doesn't come with the full paper work, it comes with barely enough to get the thing running.

    MRC decoders

I will definitely have to see if the SD45-2 has that Back EMF. hopefully my locomotive won't explode if i play with it, lol.

KATO's Maxi-IV's Well Cars and Atlas 48' All Purpose Well Cars

Well, that answers my questions from before. I love the SD70M. the first one i saw was just like that one, and i remember it because it was on a special day. I'm really going to have to pick one of those up. I knew that Athearn used to sell sets of them with autoracks, and so i'm thinking i...

    MRC decoders

No, Squid bait is right. Their decoders are horrible even for diesels. I have an Athearn SD45-2 with the MRC sound, and that thing is garunteed to fail. Unless it comes factory installed set to off, the whole locomotive won't even start to run until the 6th speed step of 28. When it does...

    Weekly Photo Fun 9-12

Cool, i've always loved the C130. Its right up there with the B52. Its interesting to see just how long these airplanes are lasting.

    Minimum Radius Required?

I'm pretty sure you have nothing to worry about with those radius curves. They are about as broad as you can realistically put on a most model railroads.

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

I'm not familiar with the unit, but i'll have to say no. I really am not sure how to mount motors in passenger equipment like that without a whole lot of work. Also, i'm not pleased with NWSL because their power trucks are to boxu to look realistic on EMUs. Its even worse in the case of EMUs...

Yes, i still wish i could find one in the Big Blue, but its been tough. the search continues!

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

lol, i'm in worse of a position, i need to find a single geared wheel set. I have an original bachmann powered metroliner car. You probably are going to have to bite the bullet and go for one on ebay (which i know is an exercise in futulity because even junked units still sell for far more...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Allright, prepare yourselves for the rainbow railroad, lol I started putting in some of the rough spots for roads. I put the building foot prints, although its all likely the change. This time, i had the "regular" blue track go outside so that it can wrap around the layout going down to...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Well, i got more of my plan completed. I worked it out so that i have a small yard for my tank cars, and a loading track with a capacity for about 5 cars per track. I've also squeezed Walthers lumber yard, Magic pan bakery and lakeville shipping in there, giving me a nice wide variety of...

Make sure to test the train running through that section. You might need to remove some to get good electrical connectivity.

    Trucklover's Shelf Layout Thread

Are you rich or something? i wish i had that kind of money to just be buying $50 sets of stack cars..... then again i need a better job! and when gas goes down, maybe i can afford to drive to the hobby shop, lol. Thats cool though. I have to ask you, which stack cars are the best? i've...

    Trucklover's Shelf Layout Thread

Oh i know what a pain they are! i'm a mechanic, and i work on diesel engine components (although in this case they belong to tugboats and the like), and I'm always dissassembling parts loaded with oil in places where it shouldn't be. I'm not sure if i've worked on a turbocharger yet (we only...

    Ideas for G.E.C.

lol, i'm chris! thats alright though, its the interwebs. everyone is anynomous! While this is true, i would like the double track to be continuous run. I might make them smaller, but i just don't like having to remeber to throw switches all the time, especially if its going to be somewhere in...
