If you thought i was excited about the catenary... NOW I'M ECSTATIC!:thumb::mrgreen: I have in my possession the first available ALP46 model from Island Model works, as well as their PL42AC (the pair were the only ones available at the company's table). I also have a three car Arrow III...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Man, this is getting tough on my wrists! i need a drill press capable of using the smaller bits, because using a pinvise to get through the catenary poles is killing me, lol. I'm heading to a transit and commuter show thingy, hopefully i can pick up some products from IHP (Arrow IIIs and...

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Well, if you can't find 40"s, don't use them, because they are the wrong size. the Metroliner EMUs use the smaller Wheel diameter. I'm pretty sure they are 33" in real life, and you could probably get away with 36". 40" is just WAY to big in diameter, they are meant for road switchers...

    Current Layout

lol, all i now is that i feel like my layout is barely changing. The "new" (now a few months old) passing track and now the catenary are the first major changes to my layout in YEARS. I suppose thats why i want to build a new railroad, or an addition, getting tired of the old, lol.

    Current Layout

lol, Yeah, I think my train club was initially nervous about me, lol. now i'm 18 though, but sadly, i feel like my layout still looks about the same... I think i spent to much tim on my locomotives, lol. Gotta finish those wires! I wonder how everyone else's layouts have changed in the past...

Next Time I Should be Patient

I wonder if the model companies work anything like other industries (such as clothing). They must be watching for people who are making these unique items, and i guess if enough people go through the trouble of building them, they figure the demand must be out there and so they make them!

Awesome, you're really getting stuff done!

Next Time I Should be Patient

Well, i just built my first working span of catenary. How much do you want to bet next month someone will come out with a cheap and easy to build PRR based catenary system.... This was in fact the American GK kit that walthers bought. Its actually annoying, because the original American GK...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Curse my lack of a camera! I'VE FINALLY DONE IT! I've got one functioning, hung, ready to electrify segment of Catenary! For as long as i've been here, i've been trying to get some overhead going. I've decided to settle for a sturdy scratchbuilt plan, rather than building expensive Model...

They haven't had that in stock in years, i've been watching it myself. Hopefully, they'll get those Stemman pantographs in soon.

Next Time I Should be Patient

this is true, but i mean, just finding the base model was a tough one, lol. It gets worse for me, since i'm always trying to get a locomotive or piece of equipmnet that is hard to find in some way or another, and people always scrutinize me, "why do you have buy it now?" I tell them that...

    Congratulations...

yeah, Its good to have people who will stick around. I feel like a jerk, i never noticed such a thread about my posts, so i looked back and found it... nearly two years ago! I've been slacking off! somebody should tell them when they get a thousand... .... Or maybe not, more party cake...

Next Time I Should be Patient

Well, it has happened to me for the second time in a year (to be almost exact). I have peculiar modeling tastes, so i often model particular models, and they are not always available. Often times, the only way to own a model is to build them from some obscure kit made more than 10-20 years...

    The Exploding Airbrush....

Hey, I just recently had to take apart my airbrush to remove an old needle with a bent point. The problem i'm having is that the airbrush will not function right. I'm not sure of the make, but it won't work (regardless of where the needle is positioned) unless i continually loosen the end of...

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Oh, i see this stuff in person all the time. For me, there are three options. One is to make "close enough" catenary using some spare rails and steel music wire. The second is to scratchbuild in more detail via plans i have from a "Pennsy Modeler" Newsletter i have, the third is to...

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Yeah, i do like the Heavy Electrics! Its taking me forever to get anything done with it though. i can't seem to settle on a strategy for catenary construction.

Athearn Ready to Roll model questions

Yeah, as far as i can tell, the GPs don't have directional lighting, but the others do. I might check though. I think my GP38-2 actually has directional lighting, but maybe i'm crazy, lol. all my other RTRs had directional lighting.
