    Dan's Layout

I think diesel was just trying to stress the importance of planning.. I would say that Creativity=Planning+Execution. It's pretty basic stuff though. An equation will always start with an answer that what an equation is ;) I would add a few other ones too.. Level of Realism = Number or rules...

Anybody found mailboxes in Walthers Catlg?

Why not make one (or a dozen) out of paper.. It's a box with a curved top right. Should be able to wip something up for that. If you have pics of the one you want. You could add paint (USMAIL) or even give it a bit of age in your favorite graphics program and print it out as many as you like...

    Precision Scale Co. ???

They have a website with online ordering. You can order everything accept RTR models. Which are available through their dealer network. http://psc1.virtualfocus.com/ Looks current enough. I would perhaps go to your local hobby shop and see if they can't get what your looking for. The website...

Burj al Arab - 1:1000 scale

That's really quite cool. It's one of my favorite pieces of architecture. Pretty expensive to stay there.. Starts at $970 a night and goes up from there ;) What a view though and it could be worth it perhaps.. for one night anyway.. Great model..

    This is why I quit.

I agree it's not 'The Gauge' it's Zealot. I've been having similar difficulties posting as well. I've had posts go arie and sometimes shows that it's a duplicate post.

    HYRAIL around the world

Pretty cool vehicles although lots look like purpose built rail vehicles.. That is they couldn't unless retro-fitted back to the original vehicle be able to run on the road. I love hirail as a rule though.. Thanks for the link.

    Ship in a layout itch...

Digital Navy is 'about' to release a paper model of the Fletcher class destroyer. On the plastic side there is a 1/144scale Fletcher that Revel has made but not workable in your circumstance. To get an HO model you would most likely need to get the DN model and up size it so that it would be the...

[Free model] Curtiss SBC-4 Helldiver 1:100

Wasn't that the plane used in King Kong? Both the original and the PJ version.. Second one had Helo's in it if I remember correctly? If it is.. Could be kinda cool to do a 1/100th King Kong.. ;) I took a trip to Wikipedia and they list Kong at between 40' on Skull Island and 60' for some shots...

    Non-waterline vessels

Not to hard to find. I found some plans of the Ironclads. The reasoning behind them I'm thinking is the Armour Plating. They at the time didn't want to spend to much time making a full hull as the smiths and furnaces perhaps were ill equipped to handle that work. So they look like water line...

    Researching the Prototype

I found a list of steam that served on the C&O but no dates or much other data. Numbers and the like. It's in the C&O page in wikipedia. I found a few more links and the Actual Roster. This one has all the dates but some are guestimates http://daveayers.com/Modeling/CnO_Loco_Class.htm <= like...

Model of The Week: USS Voyager Diorama

Excellent Job.. I would never have thought of making such a diorama. I'm thinking the floor is to resemble a borg cube. Awesome build of both the model and the 'stage'

How to strip paint from an Athearn wide vision caboose?

All seem like good suggestions. I would add maybe washing it with soap and water afterward so that there isn't any chemical left that would interfere with painting (bother your hands and the like)...

Need to print my own Decals

Ok.. Had a revolation... On my way to the convenience store.. I was thinking I would 'Imagineer' a work truck for the C&O not really able to find a picture of one for the most part. I've found pics of C&O and Chessie - Pickup Trucks but nothing of a utility nature. With added equipment to work...

    Researching the Prototype

That's a pretty good point. However we are only talking about a few years. In real time that would be considerable. In a model though lets say I model 1960 for instance. All the vehicles and other signage would be of that era. In 1960 it wouldn't be that hard to expect a car from say 4 or 5...

Need to print my own Decals

thanks for the help Thanks for the help fella's I had a feeling about that. I think one way to get around the light on dark would be to paint the area white and apply the decal to it.. but if I was going to do that then it would be easy enough to paint that area yellow aswell. Interesting...

Need to print my own Decals

Ok.. I really want to get into making some C&O models. Having decided on the decade and local to a degree. I've found some good pics of some International Wide Vision C&O cabooses. Athearn is apparently coming out with some this coming Feb.. But from the looks of them they have quite a few...

    Researching the Prototype

Ok so I've been getting my feet wet working on a design for a layout. Time: 1959 => Early 60's Railline: Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Local: Russell KY to Elkhorn City KY (Big Sandy Subdivision) Steam is still present but is being phased out as first Gen diesels are coming in. Still...

    Am I getting to old?

Oh my.. what a great round of replies thanks to all. I know I'm not old just seems weird how my interests have changed. I guess in many ways the technological side of railroading has been what slowed me down. I think I can explain.. When you or I see a modern diesel of today. It bristles with...

    Boxcar Surfing !

In the video saw a few things.. 1) ram scoop for Locomotives to pick up water on the fly.. don't know how effective that would have been but it would have been interesting to watch. 2) Price of Gasoline.. (.25 a gallon) man them were the days.. 3) Did you notice the speed of those passenger...
