Designing For Industrial Switching (2 Spurs Are Better Than One)

Jon, That is basically what I did. Phase I of my AD&N is the Georgia-Pacific Mill complex at Crossett, Arkansas. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=2&s=12&x=745&y=4584&z=15&w=2 On the left side you can also use the drop down box to swap from topo map to aerial photo.

    Operational Question

Excellent points, Jack. I don't know anyone where I live that does operations on their layouts. I'm sure there are some but all of the folks I know just run trains. Everything I know (admittedly little) has been learned from books and on-line reading. I have just gotten my pike to the...

    The All Day & Night

Paul, I understand your point. The two tracks by the chemical plant are on either side of the soon to be built loading rack for tank cars. The top track by the paper mill is the track where chemical tankers and hoppers are delivered to the mill. The paper mill is actually representing...

I have actually achieved my first objective. I finished the mill spurs this past weekend and I had my first operation session on the AD&N last night. Just solo switching the yards & the mills. It is a lot more complex to do well than I thought it would be. I used about 20 cars with...
