Need Help with Atlas controller #220

David, That is the problem. The Controller must be on the left side of your control panel. If you look at Figure 2-9 on page 16 of The Complete Atlas Wiring Book, you will see a circuit diagram of the Controller and see why. I'm sorry I didn't catch this earlier, but when I first replied...

How do start an operating night?

My suggestion is that you need to think about developing an overall operational scheme. Think about it and write something up. It does not have to be really complex. You can print off a couple and give them to your guests when they come over so that they understand what you are trying to...

    Georgia Pacific Tank Cars ??

Well, I went back and Googled all the reporting marks again. I found a new photo. http://www.railfan.ca/cgi-bin/view.cgi?image=Guelph_Junction_01.01.04_6458.jpg&size=0 The GAPX reporting mark now belongs to Georgia Gulf Corporation. Georgia Gulf was spun off of Georgia Pacific as an...

Need Help with Atlas controller #220

You're welcome. Figure 7-4 is for a manual drive turntable with single powerpack. Soldering the common grounds into a common circuit will work, too. I gapped both rails and wired my layout, as I explained, with all grounds running to the terminal strips so that if I wanted to go DCC in...

    Georgia Pacific Tank Cars ??

Georgia Pacific owns a fleet of 500 tank cars with reporting marks GPBX, GPSX, GPMX, GPPX, GAPX. I have a Georgia Pacific chemical plant on my layout and a bunch of old tank cars. I would like to repaint a few of them to become GP cars. So far I have been unable to locate any pictures of any GP...

Need Help with Atlas controller #220

If you are using the Controller to control the turntable drive you are correct in connecting the X & Y from the Controller to the X & Y on the turntable. There appears to be three problems with your wiring. First, both of the positive and negative leads from both of the powerpacks need to...

Need Help with Atlas controller #220

First of all, a few questions. Are the power packs only connected to the Controller? Are the positive and negative leads from both of your power packs both connected to the Controller at the appropriate location for Cab A & B? Is the Controller the first switch that is hooked to the...

    MRR February 2005

I thought it was a pretty good intro to the basics of how to figure our operations for your layout I model a fallen flag shortline, so Step 1 was done. I did do quite a bit of research on my prototype. I still am for that matter. You can get way down in the weeds and get lost in Step 2...

It's MONDAY 1-10-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

I got some painting done this weekend. I finished up 3 locomotives and messed one up and had to strip it. I'll have to redo it. I still have to do detail painting and decaling on the three that I finished painting. I also got 4 Atlas undecorated pulpwood cars painted and partially completed...

Dual Cab Control Blocking for Operational Flexibility ??

David, No apology needed. I appreciate you taking the time to look at and comment on my plan. I always find another set of eyes helpful.

Dual Cab Control Blocking for Operational Flexibility ??

Both wyes are already wired through Atlas Controllers and they work fine. I thought about just using on/off switches for the the shop tracks and the engine shed, but I had the Atlas Selector already and it has 4 DPDT switches with a center off position, figured I might as well just use it...

Dual Cab Control Blocking for Operational Flexibility ??

This is what I came up with. There are 24 blocks. The blocks are wired through 6 Atlas Selectors. The blocks controlled by each selector are indicated by color. Each individual block is labeled. I split each of the shop tracks into isolated blocks so that locomotives could be parked on...

Dual Cab Control Blocking for Operational Flexibility ??

When I originally built my layout I intended on eventually going DCC. One of the things that prevented me from doing it initally was cost. Another was lack of knowledge about DCC. The third was that the majority of the locomotives that I need for my chosen prototype take a substantial amount...

    Favorite N Scale Manufacturer

All of my diesel locomotives are Life-Like and Atlas. They make the types I need and I am pleased with them. No one has made an N locomotive scale locomotive decorated for my home road, so I have to look for the correct types and do that myself. One of my three connecting roads is another...

    Bachman 2-8-0 Consolidation Opinions

I'm very pleased with both of my two steam locomotives. I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidation and an MDC 2-6-0 Mogul. The 2-8-0 required a few hours of break-in time to run smoothly at all speeds in both forward and reverse. Now it is smooth as can be.

    Bachmann Steam Locomotive

I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidation and it is outstanding. I don't have a 4-8-4 but a friend of mine has one of the 4-8-4's and he is pleased with it.

Suggestions, questions regarding a small N scale layout

No, but the turnouts are #5, where Atlas Code 80 turnouts are #4. That will make a difference as the diverging angle will be a little larger and will cause you to have to make some adjustment.

    Hidden staging

I have a layout that is built on a door. If you look at the upper right hand corner, there is a wye. It leads to my staging yard that it is on the front of the layout. I built the staging yard on a 1" 12" x 8' board with 2" foam glued to it. I made 3 sets of legs to support...

It's MONDAY 12-20-04, weekend modeling accomplishments!

I made some decals. Decaled some woodchip hoppers and renumbered some AD&N boxcars.
