    Homemade Decals

I have to make my own decals, because two of the roads that I model are Southern shortlines and cars, locomotives and decals just aren't available for them. All of my AD&N equipment except for my boxcars and my Thrall All-Doors I have made the decals for. I did make the numbers to renumber my...

    Block wiring

You're welcome, Clark. It looks like it would be a fun layout to operate on.

    Block wiring

Where your passing sidings or runarounds are ABove the word "industrial" and below the word "yards," I would split them into seperate blocks from the mainline sections. That way it wouldn't tie up the whole red mainline for a engine to do a runaround move. Just split it off on either side of...

It's FRIDAY 1-28-05, weekend modeling plans!

I hope to finish up my freight car projects that I am working on. I finished assembling my pulpwood racks and have decaled all but one of them. I still have a few more cars to clear off of my workbench.

Best way to wire this layout

For DCC, they make reversing loop modules that are used instead of switches. If you want to use DC now, with DCC later, you could wire the reversing section with something such as an Atlas Controller. When you decide to go DCC, you would replace the Controller with a reversing module. I...

I finally added a backdrop to the AD&N

Thanks y'all. Scott, I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Louisiana and Arkansas. Those were the only two states I lived in before I went into the Army when I was 18. My layout is set in Arkansas, I used to live beside the AD&N mainline when I was little.

I finally added a backdrop to the AD&N

Thanks, everyone. I painted the backdrop with some satin latex paint I got at Home Depot. The color for the sky is Horizon Haze and the lower wall I painted Green Grass. These were Behr colors that I picked out by comparing with photos. I painted the clouds using Gavin Miller's...

    Serving Industries

It's going to be hard to fit 3 or 4 "cities" onto a 36" x 80" door. My layout is built on a door that size. Space is going to be your limiting factor. You need to look at what the footprint of the structures that you want to put on your layout. Cut out some cardboard the same size and...

    Playing with Trains-The Book

From what I understand, Sam Posey has Parkinson's Disease. I reckon he can be excused for getting help on his modeling. What is Parkinson's disease? Parkinson's disease is a disorder of certain nerve cells in a part of the brain (substantia nigra) that produces dopamine. Dopamine is a...

Multiple Transformers to power switch banks?

David, A simpler thing to do would be to get a seperate powerpack, an old one or a one from a trainset, such as a Bachmann or Life-Like, and dedicate it to powering just the switches. These can usually be found pretty cheaply and are adequate to power all of your switch machines. If you...
